CarPlay adapter works great but won't fit inside my 2014GLK.

I just tried installing a CarPlay adapter kit in my wife's 2104 GKL350.

Amazon Amazon

I got everything connected, and everything looks good, everything functions as it should, but when I tried to put it all back together, it's just not possible. Not only is there no room for the device, which is pretty small and thin, but there's no room for the wiring harnesses. which is a lot bulkier.

Has any one done one of these upgrade? and if so, where did you put all the cables

i have done this retrofit but as expected not easy (i thought the glk would have plenty of space behind the dash since it is an suv but guess not).

Here are my recommendations.

the device itself can be wedge in the dead space between the center vent and screen.

as for the wiring harness i wrestled it for more than 2 hours both times before I can get the radio to sit back and even the. It was a tight fit. The problem is the extra volume the plug n play harness takes up so you really have two options:

1) cut the old harness from the original plug and cut the end of the aftermarket harness. Splice the wires accordingly to conserve space

2) with the climate control module removed, stick your hand in the slot and from underneath the radio slot, begin to tug the radio harness into the climate control slot

I did this install as well. I was able to put the adapter behind the screen, that fit pretty easily. The harness was the tough part, it took me about 1.5 hours to get that thing to stay. There is some space above the weather control that I was able to force it in. If you get a flashlight you'll be able to see it. You'll just have to wrestle with it, patience is key. Take a water break in the middle. That post helped me.
