Where’s all the high mileage GLK 250’s?

I’ve read a few opinions and first hand comments on the GLK 250, but what most consider high mileage doesn’t come close. Doesn’t seem like many owners put of a lot of km’s or miles on their GLK’s. 200000 miles (324000 km’s) is not considered high mileage these days. You see suburbans and minivans do that kind of mileage all day long without making a big deal about it. Can anyone claim at least 500000 km’s. It should be an expectation for this brand. I own a 2018 Metris with a 2 litre g2s engine. I do all my own maintenance except for transmission oil and filter. I expect this van to do at least 350000- 500000 km’s. This should be an expectation when buying certain brands,
like Mercedes or Volvo. Reliability equals prestige.

In the USA the Bluetec GLK was only available 2013-15. Most drivers of luxury vehicles do not drive 50,000+km per year, especially during the COVID era. Its likely many GLK250s will get dismantled in the next few years, as interest in diesel passenger vehicles has decreased in the USA and other countries.

The engine will be no problem, it's the emission system. After the AEM extended warranty is over, it's hard to justify keeping it. Emission issues would require a MB dealer service, thousands of $ AND still no guarantee Adblue issues won't keep popping up.

Those who live in states without emissions will be able to pick these up pretty cheap (and enjoy for many miles) in a few years

Good point maybe some USA GLK250s will end up being exported to other countries where diesel is cheaper

People look at the used depreciated value, it can be so low that when a transmission or other big repair is needed it can equal the value of the vehicle. There are a few things that cost to much to fix, I think Its a poor design. Yes they should go 2-300000 miles but at what cost?

on a related note, wonder how GLK250 has held up POST AEM fix? It's been a year and pretty reliable (so far). Hopefully the "fix" also made the emissions more reliable long term.
Other than emissions, the car is absolutely rock solid perfect. Just the right size and has aged well in terms of design

I've had mine almost exactly one year. The AEM was performed right before I acquired it. I'm just coming up on the 10,000 mile anniversary (80,000 total) due to Covid, high Diesel prices and being retired, and haven't even had to add DEF yet, but, no issues what so ever. I don't have a "pre-AEM" record to compare with, but really like the car and hope things continue the way they have been going, and fuel prices get back to where they were when I bought it...

At this rate, I probably won't live long enough to make 200,000 miles...

I'm only at 125k miles and have owned Moose since June 2017. We did a cross-country trip out to the west coast and back, hitting all the national parks. It hasn't skipped a beat or ever left us stranded.

Since the AEM, and largely due to both of us working remotely, we've only put on maybe 3k miles since the fix. It is our roadtrip vehicle of choice for its comfort, amenities, and fuel economy (nearly 36 mpg average fully loaded and a fat chocolate lab in the backseat, doing 80mph with the A/C on the whole way).

It's a keeper.

250s are in junk yard

All mileage is not created equal...200k miles in 5 years vs. 200k miles in 15 year are two very different things.

I agree. I just found two GLK diesels on the market place, one with just under 300,000 km’s and the other around 275,000 km’s. So these owners can easily justify a diesel since they are probably highway km,s. I don’t think anyone that lives in the city should own a diesel. That’s where the issues start from what I can tell.

I assume AEM fix is the settlement from Mercedes?

I thought I would weigh in on this discussion. I bought my 2014 GLK250 used in 2019. I have about 3000 km on it now. I had the AEM done in early 2021.Needed intake pressure sensor replaced shortly after AEM but was 100% covered under AEM extended warranty. I love the torque in the diesel. It rarely downshifts on the highway.

I consistently get over 40mpg on highway with extensive driving at 70mph+ I have pulled a 3000 loaded enclosed trailer which drops my highway mileage down into the 20s which isn't bad. It is too bad we can't get a vehicle like this any more.

I am soon to bring it in for B 140,000 miles service which is expensive. The service advisor said it would include transmission oil change? I can't find that on the checklist though and I am not sure if I need it.

check your AEM service record. For me, they replaced the transmission oil as part of AEM. I had to do another recall afterwards because they 'might' have incorrectly used the wrong transmission oil spec.. so just had another transmission oil change

I don't think the transmission fluid has a specified interval, according to MB it's probably "lifetime fluid" but we know there is no such thing in reality.

I would definitely have the fluid and filter changed out, since the front differential shares the same fluid. I would also do the transfer case and rear differential fluid at the same time.

If you haven't yet, I'd consider flushing and replacing the engine coolant as well.

The only difference is that I would NOT have the MB dealer do any of these, as you're overpaying significantly.

My 2018 Metris specifically says the transmission fluid needs to be changed at the first 50,000km and the next at 150000km. SO the idea of lifetime fluid is no more, not that it ever was.

I have a 2010 GLK 350, currently my daily driver with 225k miles on it. It’s still strong motor and trans, body is clean even with these Michigan winters and road salt. Do need to re-replace my pads and rotors along with the calipers this time, as well as my shocks. But have been very pleased overall with the vehicle.

@C300fan2 Recently replaced the WP to the upgraded metal impeller, along with drive belt, tensioner, idler rollers and new coolant. Probably a good idea to do preventively every 120K miles.

Just passed 130K miles this past week, and nowhere near to considering Moose "high mileage".

I ran my 2013 GLK250 out to 261,000 miles before it met its demise at the hands of a deer on the highway. If not for Covid, I would’ve easily topped 300k. Aside from the AEM, I didn’t have any major repairs, though the transmission was starting to lurch a bit during shifts, so I suspected one was coming.

We're only at 130K now, runs as smoothly as the day we first got it. I think with proper and scheduled maintenance these should be 500K+ mile cars.
