Lost Disc and Memory Card when updating GPS files

Hope someone here can shed some light on my current issue...

I wanted to update my GPS map data from the current 2010 version to the last available version (2019). Got some discs online (aftermarket, not MB official). FWIW, these are the discs to update the map data, and NOT to do a Command system update.

Tried installing, and the install process actually worked up until about 25% complete on the first disc, then errored out. Re-inserting the disc would restart the process and I'd get a % or two more. The whole thing eventually just stopped at 31% and doesn't want to go further. I ordered a disc cleaner (as this is a common problem with trying to read the dual-layer DVD format discs, where even a little dirt can mess things up).

But I notice that now my Disc (CD/DVD) and Memory Card options are grayed out (both were working immediately prior to attempting to update the maps).

I checked both "obvious fuses" (#11 and 26 in the under-hood fusebox) and pulled both momentarily, and disconnected the battery for a couple minutes in an attempt to "reboot" the system. No joy.

Obviously, something's gone south, and it's something common to the CD changer / Memory Card functions.

I'm kind of at a loss at this point, and would appreciate any ideas...

Just to pre-answer the questions I might ask... ;-)

1) Yes, the COMMAND system can see the discs (or lack thereof) and I can load / eject them normally.
2) Putting in a known good audio CD doesn't do anything (the Disc option stays grayed out).
3) The CD button on the radio faceplate doesn't do anything
4) Pushing the Nav button just brings up the request to install update disc number 1 (which goes into eternal clock-spin mode)
5) All of the loading / ejecting noises sound "normal" (not having used it much) but I don't hear the disc spin up at all.
6) The PCMCIA card (with the memory chip) was pretty warm when I ejected it (even though it wasn't present on the menu). Not sure if it was heating up or being heated by something else in the radio unit. I'll leave it out just to be sure it's not causing a problem.

I did read one suggestion online that said to pull both of the fuses (#11 and 26) simultaneously, and leave them out for at least 10 minutes, and that is supposed to "reset" the COMMAND system. We'll see...

Thanks, John... now all I have to do is install a QWERTY keyboard on my dash! ;-)

Anyone know what the 10 amp fuse on the back of the radio unit does? If it's a possible problem, I have no problem pulling the radio out... (just hate to do that for nothing). ;-)

2013 is different than my 2011 (I have to use the CD/DVD player, while IIRC your 2013 uses a memory chip). No doubt the smartphone-based GPS is better, but I do like having the option of showing the map while I'm driving.

I forgot, my Glk cell service was cancelled by the cell company for Glk of at least my model year. I could go to maybe Verizon but it would not be free. It was not right for MB to allow that to happen .

Isn't that because the type of hardware (3G) in the GLK is no longer supported by (any of) the US carriers? The only thing Mercedes could do is to provide a 4G radio upgrade.

Do you have a module in the glove box that slides into a holder ? On mine I remove the unit and hook it to a pc .

The 2013 is very different. I do have an iPod interface in the glovebox (might need to be using it for the next road trip). :-(

I'm thinking that my best play might be to just swap out the DVD changer (the actual hardware inside the head unit, not the entire head unit). Anyone got any leads on where I might find one / experience doing that?

Used complete head units are often 250 eBay , the next generation would have benefits you don’t have now

The head units from 2013-on won't fit (different shape). I think mine is about as fully-featured as possible already (nav, memory chip, DVD and changer, etc.).

I'm looking either for the same head unit or the CD/DVD changer.
