2013 GKK350 Driver mirror keeps moving outward
My GLK350 with 280,000 KM (175,000 Mi) has a minor problem with the driver's mirror. Every time I start the car and then go above 46 KM/Hr (28.75 Mi/Hr), the whole mirror body opens outward a little bit. I have to turn the mirror body back so I can see with it. I try to remember to do that before I leave or it's a pain while driving. Every once in a while, it clicks into it's normal position, but keeps on doing this crazy thing. It's like the car thinks it needs to unfold the mirror every time I drive. It's not much rotation, but enough that I can't< see along side and behind the car. Strange thing is that the passenger mirror no longer tilts downward when I shift to reverse.
The history is this:
I was bent over beside the mirror in the winter (not too cold, only about -10 C), stood up and bonked the mirror with my head. Didn't hear anything break, but it moved out of position. I put it back in place, and that's when this began.
If I press the button to fold the mirrors, they fold normally - press the button to unfold them, and the driver's mirror opens all the way out as if you pushed it fully forward - it won't stop in the normal position. I turned off the auto close / open feature because of this
Does anyone know why the car unfolds the mirror a bit further each time I open it? If I don't adjust it, the mirror is flipped out fully forward after about 6 times of starting and driving it.
I tried fooling around with button combinations, but no luck. Getting tired of readjusting every time before I drive. Does anyone have an idea of how to cure this little quirk?
Many thanks!

It sounds like it has skipped a couple of teeth on the gears. If you can get to the drive mechanism/electric motor, perhaps you can rotate the driven gear back to it's original position.

That's about 20 Km/hr slower than when my mirror moves. I believe it is normal for the amber indicator to go off at that speed. Mine hasn't worked for a while (so I forget what speed it turns off at), another project...
Anyone have any ideas about my mirror? The gears open and close it as it should, the mirror just doesn't stop in the normal position when opening.
All the best!

I had this happen a few months ago when ice jammed the gears. What worked for me was to lock the car so the mirrors fold in, then unlock and open a front door so the mirrors fold out. Then manually force the bad mirror back to the fully folded position. With that mirror folded in, use the controls to fold the mirrors in, then out again. No guarantees, but it worked for me.
