HELP: Need to enter Radio anti-theft code W204 NTG4.5
I have a 2014 GLK350 that Radio head unit quit working. I got donor matching Radio head unit from another 2014 GLK to install and of course the antitheft protection came up. I have the code for the replacement head unit, but I am not sure what devices I need to buy in order to be able to access the menu to enter the new code. I have 5 Mercedes SUV type vehicles from 2012-2015 models so I want to buy everything I need in order to maintain them correctly and reset the service inspection intervals, etc. I have no idea what to buy and there are choices from $300-$5000. I don’t want to spend more than I have to, but also don’t want to have to go to the dealer for programming when I replace parts, etc…
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I really don’t know what I need to perform this task and others on these Mercedes.
Thanks….

The NTG4.0 (in the 2010-12 models) has no anti-theft code, so I've never had to do this. For most (and I believe for the NTG4.5 head/control units) I believe you are prompted to enter the code directly into the head/control units keyboard upon powering up the unit.
To do in-depth recoding of "coded modules" you'll need a pretty robust two-way (aka bi-directional) scan tool. I've currently got a Launch X431, but will stop far short of suggesting that's the way to go. I used a much simpler Autophix 7770 (IIRC) MB-specific tool... won't do proper module coding, but it will give you access to nearly everything in the vehicle in terms of reporting and diagnosis, and is much simpler to keep in the car and to use for typical issues.

X204 NTG4.5 Radio Anti-Theft update….
update on my 2014 GLK350 radio head unit antitheft code problem. Took to the dealer yesterday with replacement radio installed and gave them the five digit code that Mercedes gave to me that coincided with the Vin number Of donor car Radio came out of and serial number of the donor/replacement radio. Mercedes Technician advised he needed radio code that consisted of about 20 characters and long story short he advised after much research he was able to get the Replacement radio going. I left dealer and headed to the house and thought I would try out the navigation and what do you know, of course it doesn’t work and says The navigation cd needs to be entered and/or cannot be recognized. Anybody have any ideas on how to correct this issue now as I really don’t want to have to take this back to the Mercedes dealer. BTW… dealer charged me one hour labor at $250 which I thought was more than reasonable. Just wish they would have completed the job concerning the navigation or advised me of what needed to be done next instead of just letting me go with no explanation.
Also, now I’m wondering if I could have just changed out the hard drive of the original radio with the Replacement radio and never even had to go to the dealer (that is if the hard drive is still good on the original radio.) Looks like the hard drive is just attached to the bottom of the radio with three Phillips screws.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

I don’t really know what you’re asking about cell service on my 2014 GLK? I always thought my phone Bluetooth into the car and then the car uses my phone.. If you’re asking about the “MercedesMe” app, I have not tried it on this vehicle but did have that on my 2018 AMG C-43.

I suspect you'd get some (if not all) your original functionality back by swapping the hard drives, but until someone tries it, who can be sure?
Have you gotten into the "secret engineering menu" to see if navigation (etc.) is enabled? The menu structure is a little obtuse, but there's a lot you can do without the MB stealership taking a bite out of your wallet...

if you happen to have a video handy of best place to get newest map and how to upgrade the maps, that would be great. If not, I will go online and look. Most everything I am finding is for pre-2014 and the 4.0 NTG not the 4.5 NTG that I have..
Thanks for the reply!

You need the cars cell service to get maps, -Navigation. when they shut off the 13 I lost Maps. Yes try mercedes me, if you can’t locate and control the Glk , you don’t have cell service and no Navigation.

No need to have cell service for Mercedes maps. I updated my navigation maps with no problem by buying the map update, placing it on a usb drive and putting it in the drive slot. Start the car it sees the usb and installs the map update. Car has to be running for about an hour for the update to take effect.
