Question Oil Data Record

i was looking at the date for my next service and found a strange item that I can find nothing about.

OIL DATA RECORD
00 00 2D

Does anyone know what this refers to? Is it a warning? Does it need resetting at oil changes?

Personally, I've never seen that "oil data ..." readout.
I've only seen "Service x (usually A or B) required" which auto pops up. We have a 2014 350 Base, which is different than your 2013 4Matic.

As a (now retired) software engineer, I can only offer a translation ... "00 00 2D" is a hexadecimal number for the decimal number (which most all of us understand) as "45".

My wild guess ... the "00 00 2D" should have been translated to "human readable text" by the GLK computer, but failed. There are 'Net search results showing the same number , but nothing informative.

Did that message appear automagically?
Or did you manually bring it up in the System settings?

Some systems adjust the OCI based on driving conditions. Maybe it's some sort of oil life (or abuse) counter.

calder-cay: is it little endian or big endian?

When you go into the service menu for the next service and scroll down that appears.

I had used search on google and found several people asking about it with no answer.

I’m pretty sure that’s a workshop code. Likewise, I have seen a number of people asking about it with no one answering. It probably has meaning within the Mercedes Benz service records system. Beyond that I don’t know how to interpret it or whether it’s even useful to a DIYer.

I think you're correct.

I finally found a website that has the answer. One huge road block for me though, I can't read Russian.

A few folks ask "00 00 2d ... what does it mean?". They do get an answer, but the reply person posts snippet pages from a PDF file (in Russian text), verses answering by typing.

My browser (Brave) does actually translate the written text, but it obviously does not convert the posted images and PDF pages. I only read pages 12 and 13 of that thread (that thread is 17 pages).

EDIT since original posting:
Okay, so I read the remaining pages, but I don't comprehend the written answers for these two posts, where the respondent typed out ... you'll have to use a browser that does auto-translation, unless you can read Russian - here's one of the two written posts:

For some reason, my Adobe Acrobat can’t recognize the text in the PDF file. Maybe the input quality is low, but I used it to read everything including Russian when I was working. Or maybe because I can’t log in and I’m copying it.

In the typed texts they’re talking about it, but there’s nothing I see that shows they know any more about it than we do.

Yea, here's a typed text answer, but I haven't a clue - obviously, my browser translates, but interpretation did not happen

Not sure what "DHS" is, or "elevation / filter" ... or "salons / f" .. and so on.

Hi) Changing the oil with a filter in the internal combustion engine. air/filter, changing the cabin/f, brake…

Mine does a bit better job translating, some of the meaning is context specific. But there’s no info on the hex code. It just describes service A1. I think these guys are about like us.

A mystery. I have never used that info to keep our stuff running. That’s around a million miles on the MBs. I’m visiting with a tech trained by MB in Germany next week to talk about the binning of the new trouble codes, servicing DTCs, and MCT AMG vehicles. I’ll post if he has an answer.
