So I guess that thin silver line thing is a hinged door and when you put the card in the silver button to the left pops out a bit? Then to force the card out of the slot you push the little silver button in?

I really can't tell you how much I like that system, even if it is a bit archaic. Really the only downside I can think of is that if you run a really big memory chip (I use a 32gb chip) it takes 15 (?) seconds to boot up when you start the car. Still, it's light years better than the iPod interface or even BlueTooth streaming, at least to me (I'm not much into downloading music as I drive).
FWIW, I ordered a $10 PCMCIA adapter card ( to the one I ordered), and splurged on a 32gb memory card ( I got). So for a little over $40, I have access to more music and audio books than I'd ever be able to listen to...

I have the standard SD card slot on my face-lift GLK. It's the only source I use for music (except FM on rare occasions). Sounds very good. Not a big fan of Bluetooth or Bluetooth connections.
Hope this helps someone set up this great feature on their GLK. I'm not sure it's the same for a facelift vehicle (2013-on), but I suspect it is...
