2013 GLK 350 - standard roller center console. I've watched the videos on removing the console however I have scoped the area with a miniature camera and I see that the item is within this plastic area under the roller.
Has anyone figured out how to open this area up to retrieve your items? Moving the whole console back is not going to help as I believe that all the plastic framing components the will still have to come off.
I've placed a red box around the plastic part. It is all part of the same mold that makes up the sides and the "frame" that creates the center console.
You can see the white paper behind the spring clips that hold the ashtray in. That's what I am trying to retrieve.
I'm wondering if I can figure out how to unscrew the 4xT20 screws on the sides (yellow arrows) if the whole frame will lift off (orange box area). I've removed the 2xT20 top screws (red arrows) and that allows the top of the frame to flex a little.
My current thought is to simply cut a square hole in the top of the plastic, somewhere around where you see the circle from the mold injection. There is a rubber insert that covers this whole area so you'd never see it and of course that will make it easy to retrieve items in the future. Has anyone else done that?

Thanks for the updated images @DHackett !! The fact you pointed out the white paper is very helpful.
The image below shows my similar past problem. I placed my bank credit card as shown, and it magically slid up and disappeared (was driving).
I will go back to review what I did. I can't remember if I posted the solution. I did remove the A/C Climate Control component.
I think your recovery attempt is more challenging than mine.
(sidenote: I staged that photo today, it's a worn out grocery discount card 🙂 )
To much work taking it all apart to find that lost telephone number, why not use something like a Dremel tool or blade to cut out a piece of plastic , you won’t ever notice the hole and it won’t matter .
