2013 GLK350 washer pump issue?

Hi everyone,

My daughter bought this car last year, which has been great with one minor issue.

It will not spray washer fluid on the front windshield.
It will spray on the rear.

Things that have been checked/replaced.
  • Pump replaced
  • Front washer line/hose replaced
I did work it up to a scanner, and it is registering that the button on the stalk is being pressed, but there is no pump sound or spray.

What else should I be looking for?

Thank you

That’s an odd problem. If the scanner shows the washer stalk button being pushed, but the pump does not turn on, either there is a shorted wire, or the stalk is bad and not sending a signal back to the pump to turn it on. I’d bet on the latter.

Check the connector that plugs into the pump for power when pushing the button , if no power penetrate the wire just before the connector to see if the plug connection is bad. If no power trace it up to the next point . Hopefully it’s a bad connection in the plug that goes on the pump

There is a diverter switch that makes the fluid go to either the windshield or the back window. Definitely worth looking at this to make sure it is functioning correctly. I’m not sure what the sequence of events is to make the switch “switch”, but it may well be that power or signal goes from the stalk to the diverter, then to the main pump on the fluid reservoir.

Any idea where this switch is located?
I checked for voltage, and I get a momentary spike of voltage when trying the rear washer and no spike when trying the front washer.
When either the new pump or the old pump is connected they both operate when the rear washer is engaged but nothing with the front one.

Good luck...

(It's stiff like this that makes me glad I'm not making a living working on cars any more!)

I don’t know where it is, I just know it exists. Sorry.

Crappy that such a little thing can be such an annoyance. FCP Euro sells the diverter. AI suggests it’s close to the pump and reservoir. Should be able to locate it by tracing the fluid line from the pump.
