GLS Mid-Cycle Refresh

This new thread will focus on the coming "Refreshed" GLS which includes exterior and interior updates. Post links to articles about the refreshed GLS or any news you heard from your dealer about the refreshed GLS.

I believe most are already aware of a possible rebadging of the MY16 so lets not go down that path again.

A gaggle of MB's
Fine - there will not be a "refrshed" GL for MY2016... the "facelift" for the current X166 will be MY2017... like you say, enough is enough.... and all the chatter about 1 yr too early

Thank god someone clairifed it: Rebadge DOES NOT EQUAL Refresh....

Given said that, I'm glad. At least my 2014 isn't gonna be outdated THAT fast. 2017 is just in time for a new GL, hehe

I've read the refreshed GLS will be shown at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September and ordering could begin by December. Even though that is speculation, if MB does unveil the refreshed GLS at Frankfurt, that may turn out to be true.

Another GLS spy-photo plastered with a camouflage film. I wonder why the spoiler and rear windows are camouflaged? Maybe some changes in those areas coming as well.

Could be the angle or the white paint, but that rear quarter panel looks about 3-5" longer to me

Is MB not taking orders between now and December 2015 ?

Would like to order a 550, but waiting for the refresh. I do not want to spend 100k on a car just before the update. I do like the larger screen !

Scott: An official announcement on ordering a refreshed MY17 GLS is a ways off. Some articles have suggested ordering will start in December (as your link also suggests) but that is speculation at this point. Looks like we'll be waiting a while to order a refreshed GLS.

BTW, you will love the 550. It is fun to drive and very powerful. You will get more thumbs up from other drivers than you would ever expect. People just react very favorably to this SUV.

The recent auto show which shows the concept GLC coupes version of GLC which formerly known as GLK got me thinking that since GLE got both regular version and a coupes version would we see a coupes version of GLS as well as regular version?

I would think not. The German 3 seem to put out models to compete w/ each other when one of them has a niche vehicle another doesn't. Mercedes started w/ the CLS, BMW saw the sales success and responded w/ the 6 series Gran Coupe and now even the 4 series Gran Coupe as well as Audi w/ the A7. BMW has the X4, Mercedes is bringing a GLC Coupe, both to an extent to compete w/ the SQ5 & Macan. There's BMW's X6, so we now also have the GLE Coupe. The only other varient think we'll see of the GLS is the rumored Maybach version. You have BMW coming w/ an X7 in a few years, as well as Bentley with one in the making. I see the market for taking the GLS further up the luxury scale, but not more towards the performance end of the spectrum than perhaps a GLS63.

I like it so far. Granted, only experience was seeing it on a platform at the New York show. Waiting to see how the updated tech feels in real life, operating it while driving. I'm almost out of warranty so my thought process right now is a year end deal on a GLE or perhaps a leftover '15 GL in NOV/DEC. At the end of the day, besides the new COMAND software, front/rear design, and option packaging, it's the same truck so numbers will be the deciding factor.

I do hope CarPlay is supported in the refreshed GLS or I may wait until MB does support it. COMMAND is okay but having CarPlay would make things easier and safer while driving.

They only photoshopped the headlights and lower grille. The hood will be updated to match the new headlights. But it does offer a glimps.

2016 Mercedes GLS-Class pre-orders start on 04 November 2015

2013 GL350 lease due back in October. Assuming I want to get into a new lease on the refresh if it comes in spring 2016, should I try to extend lease until that time or buy out current lease at lease end and then trade in?

Since the right rear quarter panel is longer it might suggest a maybach version that was hinted at early in the year to compete with the range rover autobiography.

Anyone heard some new reports about the mid-cycle refresh? Things have been quiet.

JoeMa -

As far as new info, when I posted this the other day, I thought the article I linked had significant new info and would generate some discussion...

Also, I am curious on advice for my personal situation as questioned...

I'm getting the "We want our car back..." (with incentives) mailers from the dealer.

Sorry, I missed your post. It makes references to a 2016 GLS but there is still a possibility that MB will rebadge the 2016 GL to GLS without any of the changes referenced in the article. Dealers will soon be ordering 2016 models so if the "refreshed" GLS can be ordered in December as suggested in the article, it may well be a 2017 GLS, not a 2016 model. Time will tell.

As for the content of the article, it seems to be on-track with many leaked rumors about what to expect. The 9-speed transmission is news to me. I've not read that before.

Has anyone heard if Apple CarPlay will finally be supported in the refreshed GLS?

For what its worth, this link also states the refreshed GLS will go on sale in December:
