GLS RIMS 22 OR 21

Hi all
for those looking at new rim design for GLS...
would you do 21s or 22s, I personally dont like the 21s too much, look a little boring with a thicker lip..

for the 22s-- appears they come oem with 285/40s, i wouldve exepected atleast 295/35s

which tire size would you do, i'm personally gonna go with the 22s, but i think need a wider foot print for the tires.. is there a 305 with a 35 or 40 sidewall thats doable?

I'm not overly excited about any of the limited wheel designs for the US-bound GLS 63. I'm planning on going with the 21's. Most enthusiast mags will tell you that you don't get a corresponding improvement in overall performance (considering grip, wear, comfort, and blowout resistance) with ultra-low profile.

yea I'm not super excited either -- I agree - lower profile is not beter performance, especially in suvs.. i was just asking which width someone would do with a 22 rim, 285 dont seem wide enough..

You can run 305/40/22 - but we have to see what offset they make the wheel. If it's +46, it'll be pretty close to the suspension in the front (rear will be fine).

I'm guessing it'll be fine, worse case scenario you have to get a H&R spacer for the front.

Yes, there is a buyers sheet out there. I'll try to find it. I didn't care for the 22" design, too busy for me.

Attached for reference.

yea the 22s WILL be a cleaning nightmare
the21s just dont have an AMG appeal this time around.. the older ones looked way better..
for 22s looks like the 305/40 option may be the best one
i think the 325s will def hit the plastic

305/40/22 will hit plastic depending on offset. The more flush the more rubbing.

Not a big deal as only happens on full turns.

still confused
order locks soon from what I know..
for now 22s ordered.. but everyone I know seems to be reccomending the 21s..
any reccs on the oems 21 vs 22?

these remain my concerns
twins are nice and show caliper well
but inner lip makes em look smaller and 21 tire options limited (only 2) these are 295s

22s are no doubt gonna be a pain to clean
but look like turbines and all blacked with the lip as well shud look ok.. caliper doesnt show too much but have NUMEROUS tire options-- these i think come with 285s and will need to be changed

295/40/21 has several options for tires now, when they wear out you can buy the continental dws 06, These are the best all season you can get in my opinion.

560 AA A rating is excellent.

I like 21's because they show the calipers more.

i agree..
usually dont get confused with car stuff, but after all the pics and reccs...

going with the black 22s as it was ordered from the beginning..
will have to change the tires to 305s..

-apparently now the 22s are backordered which means most people/dealers ordered em.. so if I end up not liking them, the way I see it - should be in demand and easy to sell/swap; i dont know if AMG has ever done 22s in the past.. doubt it

thanks for the input..

The 22's that are on the gle63 coupe are much better looking, I've seen them in person.

They are staggered with 285/40/22 and 325/35/22 tires that look amazing.

Only issue is one tire option for rears, with 220 I believe treadwear rating, meaning with this heavy car last 10-12k miles.

The front GLE63's are 22x10 and 22x10.5 I believe. The offset I believe won't work on the gl/GLS due to the non agressive offset unless you want to use spacers.

there are two 22" options for the GLE that I've seen on the road.

this and this.

the latter, looks like a 22" version of the 21" that is offered on the GLS in non US markets. i may scoop some of those for a separate winter set up

I actually quite like the 21 inch 86R myself.
