Brand new GLS - wipers skipping like crazy!

Is anybody else experiencing wiper blades skipping? I’ve got a brand new GLS and the wipers skip like crazy since the start. I’ve tried cleaning the windshield, followed some YouTube tips, etc., nothing seems to work. Very very annoying.

Try posting in the X167 section of the site. You have posted in the X166 section, the prior generation of GLS whose last year was 2019.

I have the same issue with a 2020 GLS 450. The local M-B dealer replaced the wiper blades under warranty this past December and nothing has changed. They still chatter and skip, especially at low to medium wiper speeds in light rain. The windshield rake, wiper blade material or wiper arm geometry could possibly cause the chatter. I've seen reports that M-B is telling dealers to check for aftermarket glass coatings, washer fluids such as Rain-X and waxes applied by car washes and if found or confirmed by owners, deny warranty claims for replacement blades. None of these apply to my GLS and I intend to complain again when schedule B service is performed.

This won't harm your glass. I have used it since 1992 when I first saw it on Goss' Garage on Motorweek. You need to buy the "Original' Bon Ami 1886 formula. I take my cars to the car wash. I don't pay for the wet wax, but I follow cars that do and it get on the windshield. After a while the build up makes the wipers skip. I wet the windshield. sprinkle a lot on one side, and then use a mircofiber towel to polish the windshield with it. I go over and over to make sure I get it all. You can tell it worked when you rinse it off and the water sheets instead of beads. Also note the instructions on the GM box to use alcohol on the wiper blades. I can't guarantee it will solve the problem of whatever got on your glass. But it's a cheap and easy way to deal with it it's just ordinary crap buildup on the glass. https://www.acehardware.com/departme...eaners/1487503

Welcome to the club... I have tried everything for 2 years EVERYTHING.. Including replacing the wipers with every brand known to mankind,,, Its the makeup of the glass and the new rubbers used with wipers. If you ever find an answer let me know.

I had this same problem and pjw1967 is correct. You have wax build up on your windshield. In my case I use to choose the wax option when going through a carwash and I no longer do that. I used rubbing alcohol on a microfiber cloth to clean the windshield of the car. Problem solved and has not re occurred

2021 GLE 450 4Matic Wipers Skipping Bad- on 3rd replacement

I’m on my 3rd set of windshield wipers and my Mercedes is only 4 months old. Every time I have brought it to the dealership the service coordinator says many other customers are dealing with the same issues, and all they can do is change the wipers. The last time I brought my car there, the service coordinator said it’s the Louisiana humidity- I just laughed in his face! That’s total BS! I’ve never brought my car through a car wash, so can’t blame it there either..The only thing that helps for a hot minute is to put the on windshield wiper fluid spray. Then back to skipping across my windshield..I’ve never had an issue with any previous car I’ve owned. What the heck Mercedes- get it right!

Is it with the magic vision wipers or the regular wipers? I also had loaner vehicle ( GLB) with the same problem. It had the regular wipers no the magic vision wipers.

Cheapening of the wiper arms. Insufficient stiffness due to insufficient amount of material. Insufficient material due to cost reduction design efforts.

Score one for Mercedes putting more profit in their pockets.

So this is still a current problem even on my 2022 GLS450. A solution that I tried and 100% worked with the OEM Mercedes blades (New or old) was applying “Nu Finish, the once-a-year Car Polish” on the windshield (it does not contain any wax) as shown in the video link below. It cost $9 and 10min of my time vs $30-$40 for the bosch after market solution. Saved my sanity.
