Heated & Cooled front cup holders out of stock?

When ordering a 450 last week, I was told that heated and chilled front cup holders couldn’t be included in the order because they are out of stock due to a part unavailable. Anyone else been told this? Anyone else ordered and NOT had this problem?

A gaggle of MB's
If you "ordered" last week - your dealer told you January factory build-date - right ? Or did your dealer already start "white lies" ?

Any options can be production limited for a specific "build decade" - frankly my customers have changed their opinion/need for heated/cooled front cup holders over the past year - as the use of "insulated" cups all sizes/shaped increases - the demand/need to heated/cooled cup holders has gone down in my area big time..

Thanks for the reply. Yes decade scheduled said 20/01-1.

So do you think there’s no way to get that item without changing to another (later) build somehow?

I ordered last week, Dealer said December production (estimated) but couldn't give me a firm decade. They contacted me a day later and said they may be able to get a late November production slot. But I told them I want to take delivery after January 27th (to take advantage of MBCA rebate) so I would take the December production slot if they can.
For some reason a few days later they said December production would be a March or April delivery while November would be a December to early January delivery. Not sure why the large discrepancy and they couldn't explain either. (more white lies?)
I asked they let me know once they have a firm production decade for my order.

As far as heated/cooled cup holder, they did not indicate there was any delay.

MBCA = Mercedes Benz Club of America

If you join their membership, you can get a rebate for every new MB you buy. You must be a member for at least 1 year to get the rebate. They give you a $500 rebate for each new car.

https://www.mbca.org/

Not quite as generous as BMWCCA rebates (vary by model but range from $500 to $1500) and BMWCCA lets you get rebate immediately if you sign up for a 3 year membership, so you don't have to wait for 1 year after sign up to use it.

Regarding the weird delivery date choices you were given... my guess is that they want you to order early so they get their money earlier, and maybe they have some 2019 targets to hit? Also if I understand how this stuff works properly, they probably have been given some build slots that they can use, with known dates, whereas waiting would mean waiting for that dealer to get another slot.. which may be unpredictability far away, causing them to give a conservative estimate.

just to be clear I am totally speculating. Have no inside knowledge myself

That's what I thought initially too. But I asked them if they have early production slots available that can take delivery before end of year (to kind of boost their end of year/month numbers and to possibly take advantage of any winter sales event that MB holds each year) they told me they did not have any production slots available until December and it won't make it in time for end of year delivery.
It's odd for them to tell me that a vehicle built in the USA in December will take 3 to 4 months to get shipped to the west coast. When we ordered my wife's BMW, it took less than 7 weeks from the date we placed the order to the date we took delivery (also built in USA) we were able to track status of it on the bmwusa web site and from build complete to arriving at dealer was 2 weeks transportation time (by train then truck). Alabama is closer to west coast than South Carolina so I'd expect a similar or slightly shorter transportation time (2 weeks or so).

So basically before putting down deposit for order, ETA was early January 2020 delivery. within 24 hours after putting down deposit, ETA now March to April at best with no explanation for the change.

"Last week" all factory production thru December was already locked.

The "change" was this - to secure your deposit they quoted you "not-possible-delivery-soon" - knowing they will have to march you out to as late of a delivery as you will possibly accept.

Not good people - they are playing you like a "fish-on-the-line" - absolutely stupid of them - but without the forum it would work..

The "right way" would be to take your build specs - check to see what dealer in their region has the "closest" unsold rig on order - confirm that rig with you - and swap out one of their production slots with that dealer - more "work" to get you best rig at the delivery time you need..

I picked some pretty unique combination of options. I highly doubt they will be able to find one in the pipeline with the same options and I don't want to accept anything other than what I have spec'ed unless they are throwing in extra options free of charge (fat chance).

I know they are playing games. All dealers do unfortunately. I'm not in a rush so if it's March, I'm not going to lose too much sleep over it. Just build me a quality vehicle as free of defects as humanly possible

Just heard from the dealer. They could not secure a December production slot. They have my order in the system for a 3rd decade January production with a late February delivery.

If you cannot get the heated/cooled cupholders don't fret too much. I had them on my 2014 and one of plastic pieces broke off before I even used them. Skipped them this time.

They would be looking not for a slot w/ your exact option but one that is scheduled and still able to be changed. The allocation itself is what's important, MB has I think 3-4 weeks (don't quote me) before the build date until when the options can be changed.
