How do you jump start or use battery tender on the new GLS with 48V system?

I've got a GLS450 on order, During the excruciating wait, I was thinking about the 48V system in the car. I now work from home and drive less than 5k miles a year. Sometimes my car sits 5 or 6 weeks in the garage. Currently I use a battery tender on it to keep the battery topped up.
But the battery tenders on the market are all 12V.
WIth the 48V system, how do you keep the battery topped up? Or if the battery is dead, how do you jump start it from another car? (12v system).

Is there a 12VDC to 48VDC converter on board? That would have to be pretty beefy to be able to take the amps necessary from a 12V system to run the 48V ISG.

What does MB recommend to keep that 48V 0.9kwh lithium battery charged when vehicle is not going to be used for extended periods?

48 Volt System

My guess would be that the car will still use a 12 volt battery to operate the starter.

There is no traditional 12V starter. It uses a 48V ISG that is sandwiched between the engine and transmission and provides that EQ Boost functionality.

Yes, you use a 12V charger which charges the 48V battery through an onboard voltage converter.

Thanks, Wasn't sure they had a standard 12V input/output that can be used for battery maintenance or jump starting.

Winter is now and i was curious about this. I've heard the new Audi's get fried when people try to jump others.

Yes, there are the regular connections under the hood. Should not jump with more than 14.8 volts.

12v and/or 48v battery - GLS580

Page 613 of the Owners Manual indicates that there is both a 12 Volt and 48 Volt Battery in the Vehicle. The voltage at the jump-starting connection point is 12 volts. So you can jump start another vehicle with no issues.

A gaggle of MB's
"Jump start another vehicle" - not me, let some one else call their own jump/tow service - those jump terminals are for Roadside or MB Tech's - they are not there to be a Good Samaritan

48 volt terminal

Does anyone know where the 48v battery or terminals are located? I would like to hook an inverter to it in case of power outage, emergencies. Thanks.

it’s under the 2nd row seat, right side. However, I would not advise messing with it. The electronics in this vehicle could be sensitive to whatever you do. And, it doesn’t have a lot of capacity (0.9 Kw) unlike the batteries in a pure electric.

If by right side you mean passenger side, I lifted my seat up and didn’t see it. Is it hidden under the floor? In any case, I agree. If the OP needs something to handle power outages, get a portable generator. Easier, safer, and more fuel efficient. The 48v Li/Ion battery doesn’t have much storage, so you’d have to keep the engine running to maintain recharge from the ISG.

I meant under the second row footwell floor. The side view diagram shows it above the floor, which obviously isn't correct.
