Does GLS450 have Backup Collision Intervention?

I was wondering if the 2020 GLS450 have Backup Collision Intervention? Our Infiniti QX60 does and works as follows:

Backup Collision Intervention helps detect a potential collision with approaching vehicles and large stationary objects while backing up and alerts the driver with visual and audible alerts. If necessary, Backup Collision Intervention goes further by automatically engaging the brakes to help avoid a collision.

This safety feature is the only reason my wife insisted, and we have bought the QX60 back to back. I am not a big fan of the QX60 and looking to get the GLS450.

Thanks.

Gls450 has active brake assist as standard option which uses a radar in the front and rear bumpers to scan everything and apply brakes automatically if the driver is not responding to an imminent collision.
Also you can get an optional Driver Assistance package plus which adds a ton of other safety features.(check out MBUSA..Com).

It is a nice feature. Scared the sh*t our of me first time it activated - thought I'd hit the car next to me!

I recently took delivery of a 580 with the Parking Assist feature w/ Blind Spot Assist. I just got an hour’s worth of lessons from the dealer last week but have been traveling so haven’t had a ton of practice since then. My recollection is that Parking Assist must be manually engaged by pressing a button on the console and will then automatically park a vehicle into a parallel or end first spot. The Blind Spot Assist uses a multi-camera view, which also has to be manually selected to capture 180 degrees when backing (I think the default is a 60 or 90 degree rear view when in reverse). It is purely visual except for the auto braklng, as mentioned. What I don’t know for sure is if you can manually park nose first and then engage Park Assist to back out. The teacher from my dealer kept saying that when you use Park Assist to park, the system memorizes where and how it is parked so it can then automatically exit. I got the impression that if you didn’t use Park Assist to park, you couldn’t use it to exit but that may be a misunderstanding on my part.

You have to use active parking assist to park if you wish the vehicle to automatically pull out of the spot.

As for the backup collision mitigation, it only works for cross traffic situations. It will react in some limited situations to objects that are moving towards the GLS even if it's not exactly approaching perpendicularly, but it will not react to stationary objects. You try to test this out on a wall or a parked car and you will crash into it.

For stationary objects thats what 360 camera is for .people these days expect the car to do everything for them and not pay attention at all!

The Infiniti’s backup collision prevention works very well on stationary objects as well. These are all safety features which helps, just in case. Otherwise, why buy the Driver Assistance Packages? There is clear benefit to have such safety features and differ from one manufacturer to another.

Due to this backup prevention feature offered by Infiniti, my wife will not buy another brand. Hence, we are on our second QX60 in last 5 years. I can’t stand driving the QX60.. And I am on my third Range Rover Sport and finally will moving on to the GLS450.

From Infiniti website:
** Simply put, Backup Collision Intervention is designed to help prevent accidents while backing up your vehicle. In order to do so, it involves a range of sensors in crucial locations. These sensors are able to detect both moving objects, such as crossing traffic or incoming vehicles, and larger stationary objects that you may not be aware of. This allows the system to provide extra protection in case you happen to miss a moving or stationary object while backing up. **

I had the QX60. Feature worked great, but it would always trigger for my driveway so I ended up disabling it. I haven't backed into anything in my life so I guess I'm getting good luck so far without the feature.

But the main problem was the front collision avoidance. It just didn't work at all for that model year. I heard they fixed it later but the lack of a functional collision mitigation system is why I switched over to the GL and eventually the GLS.

We came off of a QX60 to a GLS 450. The backup collision protection, forward emergency braking, and other safety features worked pretty well but active lane departure system in the QX60 sucked. However, I’m concerned about what feels like the failure of the active brake assist and the stop and go functions, forward collision preventions, in the GLS 450. I've come way too close to a collision when testing them out in the GLS. Thinking I've got to get some feedback from the dealer.

I don’t drive the QX60 that much. However, the safety features works very well. The active cruise control works much better than my Range Rover. It seems like the active brake assist and active cruise control on GL450 works as poorly as my Range Rover, so I will adapt to it very quickly.

I have to purchase my GLS450 from out of state and hopefully I will finalize the deal tomorrow morning.

I'm disappointed and still not sure my features are working correctly in my GLS, but for the moment I have to assume they aren't to be safest. In retrospect the QX60 wasn't so bad on safety features but I still wanted to trade up to the GLS specifically because of the advanced technology I was expecting. It will take some time to see how this shakes out.

Good luck with your GLS.
