Rear seat entertainment
#26
I posted a bunch of pictures on March 15th with the rear seat tablets holders. They don’t make any from Mercedes for the 3rd row that I know of.
for us it works with just about any case. There is a slot that will grip the Mercedes case but you definitely don’t need it.
ill post a photo with an iPad in it. I think a mini would work as well.

So my kids have relatively thick cases that are soft and made out of foam. They don't ideally fit in there but the mount grabs them very snug and have never fell out. You can use the MB case but you dont need to...a thinner case will work just as well as you can see in the photos.
Very strong grip...a thinner case will fit into the groove.

Anyone know where I can order one? My dealer said they don’t make it for the GLS and if I wanted the “docking station” it would be expensive as the dealer has to install the rear seat entertainment package.
I was just looking for the mount and not the electrical support.
thanks

I’m going to have to contact a different dealer and see if they can order for me. I was trying to get those thrown in instead of the rubber floor mats.
when he said I couldn’t get that, I got them to order me weather tech mats but I still want the iPad holder!

Isn't a major advantage to the rear entertainment system that you can put a movie on and have it go through the car speakers? Do any of you owners wish you had that feature, or do you find that the kids prefer their own tablets and watching with headphones?
Also , with my kids in their car seat , they'll never be able to reach the tablets mounted on the car seat...

exactly, it doesn’t look like the factory provides an option for dual DVDs like they did in the first two GL generations. Pretty disappointing

There are millions of ipads being used by MB owners all over the world. So it is only logical for MB to provide docking stations for those ipads instead of trying to sell proprietary video screens that does only one thing: play movies through dvds.
I had one of those on my E-Klasse years ago and it was a very expensive option that regretfully purchased as the kids barely used it. They would rather play with their ipads on their laps.

does anyone even buy hard media (e.g. DVDs, CDs, etc.) anymore? i might sooner get an ipad with cellular service and just stream content for long trips. once someone creates an app that allows control of a tablet from another mobile device, i'd be all set!

Measurement
I've spent the past few months benefiting from the insights of others as I awaited my GLS450 (which was ordered in November and came in February). I have 2 kids the are glued to their iPads and have done extensive research on the MB entertainment tablets as well as many of the MB mounts. As an aside, my dealer had almost 0 knowledge of any of these mounts and says he never sells them or the monitors (Very large volume dealership). Recommended my kids hold their own tablets, which is not what I wanted...What I recommend that anyone interested in a mount get is:
A 000 827 2200
Has a release button on the side.
Can be resized to fit any larger tablet. (Don't think it can be made small enough to fit a smaller Fire tablet or iPad mini). Does NOT draw power from the slot.
Can be rotated to have a vertical orientation of the tablet.
The mount one the back of the door magnetically unlocks when you put the mount in to insert it and re-locks when they are removed.
My kids absolutely LOVE these things, and it prevents their necks from being strained on longer trips.

Mount For Tablet Pc (Code 866) - Mercedes-Benz (000-827-22-00) Sale Price: $222.00
It would be almost $500 shipped for two.. for a piece of plastic.. crazy. Has anyone found a non-OEM solution that plugs into the same area?

Go to ebay. There is a seller named "OEMGENUINEMERCEDES" who is based in New Jersey and sells a lot of OEM MB parts.
He is selling these for about $148, with MB part numbers but slightly different.
I asked him if it fits a 2021 GLS 450 and he said yes.A 000-810-33-00
A 000-827-20-00

What's odd is that MB's 2021 GLS reference guide lists "Pre-Wiring for Rear Seat Entertainment" as a standard feature. What purpose does it serve? Would love to add the tablet slots to my 580....

But I can't figure out how to get the slot to open! You say it magnetically unlocks, but how? I tried to push the mount into the slot relatively hard but no luck...

Ha! I could have sworn I got the same part number you showed, but seems I ordered 0008272000 instead of 0008272200... Must have gotten confused when I searched around and copy/pasted from somewhere like EBay that showed a 'similar' result. They look 100% identical except for the connector piece at the end, where yours is a bit wider.
Also saw it at (1:17 of video)
and the installation looked super simple which made me wonder why I was struggling. Your version is $66 more expensive, I guess that magnet that opens the flap is made of rare metals :P
Anyway thanks for the quick reply.

It should be the one I got by mistake, which is 0008272000 (ends in 2000 instead of 2200 which is the one I wanted).
Note that this one requires a bracket that you attach to the headrest first, which should be 000-810-33-00. Although I've already shown I can't get part numbers right, so double check first! FYI I ordered from mbonlineparts.com which seems legit and has the cheapest prices (but you have to add shipping).
