Rear seat entertainment
About to place an order for a GLS but I'm being told I can't order the rear seat entertainment currently. What are the options/alternatives?

Help me to understand why anyone would shell out big money for back seat tablets when your kids can just bring their iPad or whatever tablet they probably already have with them in the car. Spend thousands on limited usefulness car screens or a few hundred on an iPad?

Yes - with RSE Pre-Wirw - the $1000 MB Entertainment tablet (available from Parts Dept on special order) slides in and is powered.
The "port" on the back of the front seat is actually a "folding door" - bottom edge folds in/back - and the mount on the tablet slides in all the way to power up.
The MB Tablet is primarily WiFi ...
All and all - if you want to have it you can have it - the other thing "most" do is get a generic iPad or Amazon Fire Kid's tablet - and use generic seat holders that clip to the front headrest supports..
I haven't met a 5-6-7-8 yr old that doesn't love a tablet... and young'ins find a child seat tablet mount

My current 7 year old has been using a tablet (hand me downs from my wife and I till recently she got a fire tablet-which SUCKS by the way) since about late 4, early 5 yrs old. She only uses it when in a car and has actually gotten pretty proficient at it.

For those who are curious, the part number for this tablet is A 213 820 66 03.
I would strongly discourage any attempts to buy one though. They are useless. Doesn't integrate with the car at all other than it fits into the slot. It has a browser but it's not very well made. So scrolling results in accidentally clicking on many of the websites such as youtube. Sound doesn't integrate so you have to use your own headphones (connecting to the car via BT is possible, but results in audio sync issues). Screens cannot share with each other easily. It's a convoluted process that involves connecting to each other's wifi. Has HDMI input. Much better to spend money on an ipad and holders.

MB Tablet Mounts to get
I've spent the past few months benefiting from the insights of others as I awaited my GLS450 (which was ordered in November and came in February). I have 2 kids the are glued to their iPads and have done extensive research on the MB entertainment tablets as well as many of the MB mounts. As an aside, my dealer had almost 0 knowledge of any of these mounts and says he never sells them or the monitors (Very large volume dealership). Recommended my kids hold their own tablets, which is not what I wanted...What I recommend that anyone interested in a mount get is:
A 000 827 2200
Has a release button on the side.
Can be resized to fit any larger tablet. (Don't think it can be made small enough to fit a smaller Fire tablet or iPad mini). Does NOT draw power from the slot.
Can be rotated to have a vertical orientation of the tablet.
The mount one the back of the door magnetically unlocks when you put the mount in to insert it and re-locks when they are removed.
My kids absolutely LOVE these things, and it prevents their necks from being strained on longer trips.

I think I will just take a chance on the $20 ones off Amazon and see how they work for the 3rd row and see if I can't get those MB ones for the 2nd row.

Do you have these installed yet in your GLS and if so, can you share some images of what it looks like and how it all works? I really appreciate your help here before I go through ordering them myself.
