Rear seat entertainment

About to place an order for a GLS but I'm being told I can't order the rear seat entertainment currently. What are the options/alternatives?

Do you have a pic of the setup? What's the cost of the screens?

Does anyone know how to open the connections on the back of the front seats to plug the tablets in? Do those connectors carry electricity?

Help me to understand why anyone would shell out big money for back seat tablets when your kids can just bring their iPad or whatever tablet they probably already have with them in the car. Spend thousands on limited usefulness car screens or a few hundred on an iPad?

For small kids (like 3 to 8 years old), it's often easier to put a movie on an tablet then having them try to hold and operate an iPad.

I would just get the ipad holder. It plugs into the same port on the seatback.

Any iPad holder you can recommend that would plug into the port? Do I need some kind of port/plug adapter?

A gaggle of MB's
Yes - with RSE Pre-Wirw - the $1000 MB Entertainment tablet (available from Parts Dept on special order) slides in and is powered.

The "port" on the back of the front seat is actually a "folding door" - bottom edge folds in/back - and the mount on the tablet slides in all the way to power up.

The MB Tablet is primarily WiFi ...

All and all - if you want to have it you can have it - the other thing "most" do is get a generic iPad or Amazon Fire Kid's tablet - and use generic seat holders that clip to the front headrest supports..

I haven't met a 5-6-7-8 yr old that doesn't love a tablet... and young'ins find a child seat tablet mount

Has to be the Mercedes accessory one. You can get in from your dealerships parts dept.

My current 7 year old has been using a tablet (hand me downs from my wife and I till recently she got a fire tablet-which SUCKS by the way) since about late 4, early 5 yrs old. She only uses it when in a car and has actually gotten pretty proficient at it.

For those who are curious, the part number for this tablet is A 213 820 66 03.

I would strongly discourage any attempts to buy one though. They are useless. Doesn't integrate with the car at all other than it fits into the slot. It has a browser but it's not very well made. So scrolling results in accidentally clicking on many of the websites such as youtube. Sound doesn't integrate so you have to use your own headphones (connecting to the car via BT is possible, but results in audio sync issues). Screens cannot share with each other easily. It's a convoluted process that involves connecting to each other's wifi. Has HDMI input. Much better to spend money on an ipad and holders.

My kids LOVE their fire tablets and are great at navigating through them

MB Tablet Mounts to get

I've spent the past few months benefiting from the insights of others as I awaited my GLS450 (which was ordered in November and came in February). I have 2 kids the are glued to their iPads and have done extensive research on the MB entertainment tablets as well as many of the MB mounts. As an aside, my dealer had almost 0 knowledge of any of these mounts and says he never sells them or the monitors (Very large volume dealership). Recommended my kids hold their own tablets, which is not what I wanted...What I recommend that anyone interested in a mount get is:

A 000 827 2200

Has a release button on the side.

Can be resized to fit any larger tablet. (Don't think it can be made small enough to fit a smaller Fire tablet or iPad mini). Does NOT draw power from the slot.

Can be rotated to have a vertical orientation of the tablet.

The mount one the back of the door magnetically unlocks when you put the mount in to insert it and re-locks when they are removed.

My kids absolutely LOVE these things, and it prevents their necks from being strained on longer trips.

Best price I have seen online for these is $166 per mount. Do you need to get the tablet case or will it configure to any tablet (i.e. iPad Air or iPad Mini...big size difference)? Just want to make sure my kids can use their iPad Mini's... I still need to get something for the back of the 2nd row for the 3rd row kids. Any ideas on what others have used? I have seen some $20-30 ones on Amazon that go on the metal prongs of the head rests. Obviously that would eliminate the ability to adjust the headrests down if those are put on there, but I wanted to see what others have used.

Not sure about 3rd row. I paid in the $225 range at dealership since when I bough it I couldn't find them anywhere on eBay or amazon, etc. Only sites in Germany were selling them.

$225 per or for the set? Do they fit iPad Mini sized tablets?

I think I will just take a chance on the $20 ones off Amazon and see how they work for the 3rd row and see if I can't get those MB ones for the 2nd row.

Do you have these installed yet in your GLS and if so, can you share some images of what it looks like and how it all works? I really appreciate your help here before I go through ordering them myself.
