Lowering the GLS

Ok... I’m quite sure this is going to end up being a brain fart on my end but....

I cannot get our 2020 GLS to lower. I push the paddle of the gigantic center console control down, but the car will not lower. It raises just fine. It WILL lower the rear only if I press the button in the cargo area, like it’s supposed to.

I read the manual and I don’t see any “qualifiers” that I’ve missed. It says just push the control down and the car will lower.

My E450 Cab lowers if I put it in ECO mode, but I don’t think SUVs work the same way (GLS doesn’t lower in ECO mode)

Have I missed something obvious?

I’ll have to try that. Just odd the manual says you can lower at will, but I can’t get it to

To lower the car you have to go into the quick access vehicle menu and then click the lower during entry/exit button. That is the only way I have found to lower the car all the way down. Sport mode will lower it part way. I think the only use for clicking the button on the center console is lowering back down from the off road setting.

The lower during entry and exit function is confusing to me. Is it a permanent setting? Ie when selected it will always lower the car during entry/exit or it’s just a temporary thing that has to be selected each time someone wants to get in/out.

It seems to me the latter though would be more useful if was permanent.

It is permanent. I have it configured on in my 580 and it lowers for entry and exit. It is a slow motion, so I don't even notice it most of the time but my sister was riding up front yesterday and she noticed the front of the vehicle rising after we had gotten in and were driving off. My wife, who is short, really appreciates this feature (along with the step). She really struggled in my former GL350, especially in a dress.

How did you make it permanent? When I select it after I exceed 19 mph the car rises and the setting is turned off until I manually press while going less than 19.

It only lowers to make it easier for people to get in and out. It doesn't maintain the lower ride height once you start moving. That is how it is designed. Not sure if the new AMG will have a different option to maintain a lower ride height.

that’s not the question. The issue is it has to be selected each time you want the feature to work rather than set it and forget it. It seems some people have been able to have the feature on all the time. Maybe it’s a OTA update thing.

I turned it on in the settings and I think it works every time I’m park to enter or exit the car. You may have to lock the car to get it to work for entry but it should only require putting the transmission into park and shutting off the engine for exit. It’s pretty subtle, not a dramatic change but I can notice that the hood of the vehicle is slowly raising and lowering.

I have tried couple of different way to make this permanent, however the setting is never saved. Maybe, there is some software update which would resolve this issue.

Sorry to Bother you after so long, came to your post as I have the same issue with my GLS 580.

Did you find a solution to this yet? Can you get it to lower by pulling the airmatic ***?

The Only way I get to lower it to -1 is by putting it to sport or setting the suspension in Individual Drive to "Sport".

It shows -2 but do not know how to get there when entering a garage that has low ceiling for example.

What is the outcome from your search?

I was just told at the dealership today that on my 21 GLS63 there is no way to have this access mode be a permanent setting. Unlike my 2014 ML63 that lowers every time I lock it.

Rather annoying honestly.

Does anyone know if there is a module or hack for this?

=====EDIT====

I found out that the only way to make it go to -2 is to activate the function for easy access by the occupants. it is n the car settings and it shows a person getting in the car. this way to make it easier for someone to get it the car lowers to -2. Then it resets to the default height.

Yup this is how it functions. The setting has to be activated each time you exit the vehicle. I wonder if it can be set as the gesture shortcut--probably not so it's at least two button pushes to activate each time at least for me (favorites and then exit/entry lowering).

OP, let us know if you’ll ever find an easy solution to this, am interested in that as well.

And thanks for those who keep reporting puppet accounts handling dirty posts.
