So I decided to pull the trigger and traded my hammer wagon (2019 E63S) for the sledgehammer (2021 GLS63). This was truly a snap decision. My wife and I went into the dealer to get things ready for her GLS580 delivery and I saw this huge, what I thought was a huge black truck. I walked closer and saw that it was a beautiful deep metallic green. It was essentially love at first sight for me.
I already had a RAM TRX on order, but despite ordering the first week the order banks opened, I was not slated to get the truck till at least Q2 if not Q3. I also was having a tough time getting single digit MPGs...So, after some negotiations (I really want to buy two GLSs form you, please give me a good deal...) I decided to pull the trigger.
My one concern with the GLS63 was the gigantic 23” wheels and summer tires. I can’t drive those in the winter here with snow and ice. They don’t make all-seasons in a 23” size so I had to downsize. Luckily, I found some pretty cool 22” wheels and good snow tires for the truck. My dealer mounted and balanced them and I think they look pretty awesome for a winter wheel setup. I went with the Niche M203 wheel in 22x9” size with +27 offset. It pokes just a hair in the front and tucks 12mm in the rear. I don’t think it looks bad at all. I ordered the wheels, tires and TPMS sensors from BB wheels. They were very helpful but had somewhat limited info on the 2021 GLS63 (no one had good info). They sent me TMPS sensors for the 2020 GLS580 but those didn’t work. Thankfully, I worked mounting, balancing and installing the winter wheels into my sale contract. The dealer had to figure out the TMPS issue and then the lug bolts they sent didn’t fit either...After a couple of days they got everything worked out and I picked up the truck today.
I have only had it for a day but am loving everything about it. The new MBUX system is much improved compared to my 2019 E63. The touch screen is a huge step up but I do wish they kept a scroll wheel instead of the touchpad. The ride in comfort mode is much improved compared to my wagon (the wife readily agreed) and I am in love with the emerald green metallic color. I think the winter wheels look pretty bad *** and they should handle the snow and ice like a champ.
I brought the beast home and the first thing I did was protect the interior carpet and leather with 303 fabric guard and Gtechniq leather guard. Then, I slapped the Weather Tech mats in which fit like a glove, as always.
Monday, it gets clear bra and front window tint. I will do Gtechniq ceramic coating myself after the clear bra is done.
Hot tip for programming the rear view mirror garage door openers. In the manual, it says to press and hold the button you want to program until it starts to blink green slowly...that is wrong. Someone here on the forum said you needed to double click the button which gets it ready to program.
Thanks for listening and can’t wait to get the 1000 mile break in period done.

Niche M203 22x9” +27 with Pirelli Scorpion 298/45-22 tire all around. Rear wheel tuck Front wheel poke
Beautiful rig! Those wheels look very similar to the OEM ones on the 580. They look great!
Thanks! I totally agree. I love the 23” 580 wheels and thought these would be perfect. I actaully like them in black better and they still look awesome in the slightly smaller 22” size.
