Factory switch timeframe for MY22
Hi,
I placed an order for a MY21 GLS450 for my wife, the first week of January. After some regular hoopla on some of the options pushing schedule out indefinitely (and not budging on them), today there was a production date assigned as June (not sure which decade yet). I am now wondering as to whether it is too close to the production switch timeframe for the MY22. While I am sure my wife will not mind, it is still something that will continue bothering me.
Unless my memory is failing me, the US factory switch date is sometime in September, right? Does anyone have any anticipation with respect to big options changes going from MY21 to MY22? Usually the big changes are going from first year of production to second, going into FL years, and going into the last year of production before a major switch. Therefore I am not expecting any big changes in there, but would love to hear what folks think.
Thank you all in advance.

While there is no such option available on GLS450, I totally agree with you that I would not order one without it. It is a hoot on my S560, especially when coupled with the in car wifi and Fire TV with access to pretty much everything... I must admit, I never used the Blu-Ray player though...
1. Frankly - I don't know where you are located - but Production Dates for June have not yet been assigned - so there is at least some miscommunication/misunderstanding there.
2. Rear-Entertainment for X167 frankly is a "let down" for most owners due to 2-Major-Issues : 1st lack of documentation regarding operation of the MB-Tablet's (actually a chained-3rd-party Android based tablet) and 2nd "locked" Android system not possible to hack or upgrade
3. MY2021 will be scheduled to finish up 1st Decade July.
4. The 1st Production line for MY2022 will go up mid-June (as converted over from 2021) - and all production will be converted over to MY2022 by 2nd Decade July.
5. US market release - in part dependent on Fed approval - is anticipated to be mod-August.
I get it - "you kindof maybe wanna have a new GLS" - I would suggest to get onboard with a competent Dealer

Hi fabbrisd1,
I would like to believe that I have a competent dealer, as this is not my first transaction with them, and they have been great in all the other occasions. I am located in Portland OR, in case that makes a difference. I will stop by at the dealership and look at the netstar screen myself to see if there is a miscommunication. If it turns out there is an issue, then yeah, other dealers would definitely be an option. Although it would be a hassle to start from scratch towards getting the same sweet deal I got...
Sounds like the rear entertainment option is different than the one that I have on my W222. There is no tablet in mine, just two screens behind the front seats. And they can be linked or independent, with pretty much all the bells and whistles with the exception of 4K; they are just FHD. And that actually helps when you want to download movies and shows real time with no lag in play. I was not aware of the differences, but with my experience on W222, for me, there is no way it makes sense to get another luxury sedan without them anymore.
The GLS is for my wife, as she is the one who prefers SUVs, and I was assuming she would want a new one, but turns out she may not be caring much, so all is well... Either way though, thank you very much for sharing the information you shared. That allows me (and her) to make educated decisions.

Rear entertainment should be helpful for people small kids. I've tried the ipads w/wireless headphones in my current car and the backseat is a mess of charge cables and stuff everywhere so was hoping keeping it integrated would atleast make is look cleaner.
Dealers around here are now taking orders for May builds. I figure by just waiting two months, I'd rather get a newer model year if only for resale purposes.

I don’t have data, but I’m wondering if allocations for end of year builds are a bit freer than early builds of the next year - we’d all prefer the new date when given a months difference.
I do believe that just because they could get a June allocation doesn’t mean they can get another slot a month later.
You might ask if you skip a June, when is their next one?
I passed on a January 2020 for a few small build limitation reasons and couldn’t get another allocation until May (before virus hit) . I finally got the 580 in January after pandemic delays.

Does anyone have a confirmed crossover or buildout date for MY21 - MY22 changeover? I just placed an order for a GLS580 and it will take about 6 months, so I assume it will change over to MY22? Thanks in advance.
