GLS 580 23” AMG wheel question

I’m a member of other AMG forum sections, but have a question here to try and help out a friend. Short version: They just took delivery of a 2012 GLS 580 with the 23” wheels. They look superb, but have max summer tires on them. No all-season tires will fit them, as far as I know. Do you guys think a viable solution would be an even trade with someone who has 21-22” wheels? That might be easier than trying to sell and then buy other wheels. Any other ideas?

Either sell the 23”s or get a second set of 22” wheels and winter tires...like I did.

There are several threads on this. There are no 22 in all season either in correct size for the rear. I think it is important to keep on spec so I went 21inch. Recommend you read this thread about the sizes, speedo impact etc.

Let us know if you make a change.

In one of the hundreds of other threads on this subject, I mentioned that Mercedes now do list the Pirelli Winter Scorpion in the staggered 22 inch size, but they are not available for a few months, so you’re out of luck for this winter season in North America.

They make all season tires for the front wheels so you can buy a duplicate set of front rims and put them on the rear with or without spacers. So now it will be more of a square setup instead of staggered. I have not been able to confirm this would work, of course I don’t expect mercedes to recommend this setup but I think it is very likely to work.

On another note, I suspect that Pirelli will come out with an all season tire for the rear eventually (hopefully before next winter). They just released the all season tire for the front GLS 23” wheel in the last few months. I keep checking here.
