Few issues with new GLS

Hi all,

I picked up my GLS a few weeks ago and overall I am enjoying it. Have put about 1,000 miles on have a few issues I can’t seem to fix. Took it to the dealer and (of course) they couldn’t replicate or said it was fine.

1. Clicking noise in the drivers seat when driving. There is a clicking noise that seems to appear when driving over a bump or turning the steering wheel. It is like the noise of the volume wheel turning - or some type of navigation audio tone - but it’s very annoying and can’t be traced back to anything. Has anyone had this experience?

2. Keyless/touchless entry - since we’ve gotten the car I’ve only gotten this to work a few times. Of course when my wife went to the dealer, it worked but out of caution they changed the battery in both keys. It still doesn’t work. We have a BMW where this feature works perfectly. Has anyone had this experience?

3. Park Assist - is there a way to turn on the overhead camera and side senors manually? I feel like it only turns on at certain times and sometimes when I need it it doesn’t turn on.

Any help would be appreciated on these two issues. For almost a 90k car, it’s surprising.

1. Probably a trip to the dealership.
2. There has been some issues with the key fobs in the new generation GLE/GLS, I would say 90% of the time it works flawless for me but the other 10% the doors don't unlock unless I use the fob. I heard people say to shake the fob and it will work, but that never fixed it for me and I always had to resort to clicking unlock on the fob.
3. On the left side of the trackpad, there are three buttons. It's the 2nd button down that looks like a "car" that you hold for around 3 seconds to bring all the cameras up quickly. It is NOT the "P" button, which has more options but require a few more clicks to get to surround view.

.
Are you by chance pressing the lock button on the remote twice? This shuts off the remote, and keyless entry is thus disabled becuase it can't sense the fob when you walk up to the door.

I’ve never had a problem with unlocking upon touch but had major problems with locking, which was very inconsistent. It turns out that the key fob does go “to sleep” after a certain amount of time. It is supposed to wake up with motion. What I was finding is if the key was in my jeans pocket and I got out, it wasn’t moving enough and wouldn’t work without me reaching down and giving it a giggle. Since I learned this trick, it has never failed to lock.

Does she have other wireless goodies in her purse? Some times they can interfere. Another is for the dealer to reprogram the system and see if that works.

Just something you may look at. I was chasing a squeak noise on my X166, driver seat, happens when driving over bumps. Dealer didn't find anything to fix then just say it's normal... I decided to take a look myself, 5 minutes later I found a bolt under seat slightly loose. That's was the cause.

What does this mean? Is there a way to reset it or just as simple as lock? I don’t think think I am pressing twice but I’ll check.

It means you have shut off the remote from "broadcasting" your presence if you press the lock button twice. To re-enable it, you have to push a button to wake it back up.

Hi all,

Still having this noise when I drive over bumps and it’s getting really annoying. Any thoughts on how to fix? Should I take to the dealer?

Take it to the dealer. Ya paid big bucks for this thing and ANY annoyances are on them to fix. Demonstrate the noise to the service writer and/or technician to make sure they are hearing what you are. Also have them deal with the keyless issues. Had some bad keys on other MB's in the past so you never know. For the most part, MB has a superb warranty - part of what we all pay for when we get one. Make it work for you!

1- I have the same issue GLS 580 23'' , check my previous post ( the agency told me its normal and all GLS has this sound because of the airmatic system but its not correct)
2- press on the opining button twice (do it fast)
3- you can see the button near your hand rest area (turn on below 20 km/hr I think only)
