looking for info for roll out of the 2022 GLS450???

Allegedly placed my order for a 2022 GLS 450 in August and was told possible late October early November delivery.
Now it seems, that I may be looking at a March 2022 delivery. Anyone have any solid information what is happening with the 2022 model year.
Some people say chip shortage, others say it has to do with overall compliance with meeting emission standards?ANYONE KNOW THE TRUTH????????
Thanks

I suspect, though I can't confirm, several things... the chip shortage is real - everyone is suffering from it. There is also a trickle down effect of delayed or suspended sub-component manufacturing from suppliers who may have been shut down due to COVID and are playing catch-up. MB may be strategically delaying manufacture to save labor costs until some stock of materials is built back up. There was an issue earlier this year with the 48V battery supplier being acquired by a rival and breaking their contract with MB, so they are likely scrambling to get that shored up in the midst of every other manufacturer clamoring for similar batteries. There was also an issue with sourcing high voltage capacitors for the 48V systems - the factory in China burned down and the only other manufacturing facility making them in Texas was heavily damaged by the deep freeze in February. Not sure if either or both are back on line. And lastly, their push to make electric powered everything is probably consuming a lot of resources at the expense of current production and sales, but hey - it's fashionable and the green wind is at their back and politics are in favor of electrification and there are undoubtedly some governments incentive monies to pursue it. Lastly, MB always has been notoriously slow on the special order front. It's something I wonder if they "get" at all. FWIW, I ordered a 21 450E Wagon in January. Slow, slow, slow... maybe... maybe not... don't know where it is... at the port... on hold... Finally I said screw it and bought a GLS450 4 months ago. Last week the wagon finally showed up. 9 freeking months later. Don't miss it or regret getting the GLS at all.

I placed an order in mid August for a GLS 450 and was told at the time it would be built at the end of October and delivered in November “if all goes to plan.” After seeing your post I checked with my salesman, and was told that a build date of October 19 was assigned so delivery should be on track for November barring any unforeseen glitches. He also indicated that he hasn’t seen many delivery problems with the GLS’s. FWIW…

Chevrolet Chevette, Ford Pinto, Pontiac Aztek, Trabant, Yugo GV (and all the worst cars ever built)
Three reasons:

1) Chip shortage
2) Chip shortage
3) CHIP SHORTAGE

I posted sometime last March that there will be a global chip shortage that will affect ALL car manufacturers.
It is not only impacting MB but all the major car manufacturers.
Intel and Taiwan Semicon are the largest semicon makers in the world and they can barely supply phone companies.
The demand for vehicles went up starting mid 2020 and has not subsided.
And the demand / supply imbalance for new vehicles and chips will not normalize until the middle of 2023.

I work in finance

FWIW my build date on MY22 GL450 moved up a 10 weeks and is scheduled for next week. Seems like MBUSA supply chain (at least on this model) is hanging in there for now. Knock on wood.

Were you able to get wireless charging? We ordered Sept 1 with Nov 1 build date but couldn’t get wireless charging unless we waited until mid Jan build.

Didn't request wireless charging. Only added leather, running boards, lane assist and hitch. Perhaps the reason my build moved up was others getting pushed out due to constraints as yours was.

We didn't request it either - believe its standard now - but showed up on our build as a $200 credit bc the factory removed it.

A gaggle of MB's
1. Yes - Wireless Charging is Not Available - and Yes there will be a $200 Credit shown in the Options Section.
No - MB does not know when that Standard Feature will be available - the Dealer Comment "mid-February" was smoke blowing - "thinking maybe" next round of allocated orders W-Charging "might become" available.
Frankly - Wireless Charing is SO SLOW compared to USB-C - and wireless charging mat is not wide enough for "Pro-Size phone" take the $200 and be happy

2. Yes - Augmented Nav Video is NOT available

3. Yes - Hermes LTE MB-Cloud connectivity (like accident reporting/location) may not be available for factory build - but will be available for free Dealer Retro-Fit Upgrade later - which will require Dealer and Your Sign Off to release your Rig from the factory if your rig is affected

4. "Build" -and "Model Year Federal Release" are two different things - best "guess" at the moment is Dealers best guess MY22 GLS will be "released" Mid-November for Customer Delivery end-November. If it's that schedule - or a hair earlier - then everybody wins - if it's later - then everybody gets stressed.

FWIW my dealer says late October it should be available for pick up.

GLS 450
Any thoughts on when they would do the MY 2022 federal release? I was hearing it may be earlier this year. I have a build date of 9/22 for a 2022 GLS 450 (this wednesday) but not sure when it'll actually get released. Dealer said it may be late september?

I have been tracking GLS’s available for sale in NYC metro area for past few weeks.until 2 weeks ago, the inventory on Cars.com or Autotrader was tiny. Most dealers didn’t have it. However, in last 2 weeks, I see 57 GLS’s becoming available for sale and many of those are 2022 MY cars.

I have a 2021 MY GLS which sorta finished production August 18th but waiting for rear seat power module. I was told that it should be completed by October 1st but I checked with the dealer today and he said no change in status :-(

I would have thought that MB would rather get a near complete car out the door before switching over to make more new cars and shipping them completely. So disappointed. I am really tempted to go to MB Manhattan or MB Edison to buy one off the lot but don’t want to screw my dealer. That said, my wife is eating my brains out that we don’t have a family car anymore (only other car we have is a tiny Fiat 500c Abarth and that is a tight squeeze even for our small family…)

Anyone know why my car would be stuck while MY2022’s are getting g shipped out? FWIW my dealer said a VIN has been assigned and shared it with me. He said only feature it will be missing from my build request is the augmented reality.

Go to MB Manhattan and get whatever you find on their lot. You might just find what you are looking for with all the options. MB Manhattan is the only dealer in the country that is owned by Mercedes Corporation. They get bigger allocations than many dealers in the area. Good luck.

You've waited this long for the GLS you ordered, why settle for less? Maybe your dealer could provide you with a loaner car that would fit your family while you wait it out. You might see if your dealer could ask MB for something on your behalf because of the wait: accessories, maintenance, service contract, etc.

Are the cars on autotrader actually available for sale? And if so when are they scheduled for delivery? Seems to me like a lot of dealerships list cars on their website that are already sold/allocated so would question if you can really get them. But I agree there seems to be a huge in influx of 2022 450s, presumably due to slots opening up from the cancellation of 580s.

Perhaps the most interesting seems to be the mark up that MB Brooklyn is charging on their cars.

These are cars that were previously allocated. I would bet most of them are sold units.

NICE! Is everything you ordered in the car? Any options or standard equipment deleted?

Unknown at this point. Just a phone call so far. Not even sure if 2022 pricing has been released and when they can actually sell it. Stay tuned.

For those who ordered a custom build - were you upcharged from the MSRP price? GLS 450s on the lot are going for 15k above MSRP in Paramus NJ. Unsure if that is the case for custom builds as well. Paramus isnt doing custom builds at all right now bc they can't guarantee availability of custom parts.

Live in NoVA and most dealers around here either (a) are doing anywhere from a 8% to $7500 markup over msrp or (b) don't have a build date until mid 2022. I called nearly every dealer in MD/VA/PA and found a dealer in PA with no markup and they had 1 Dec build slot available. Went there and bought. You have to call around. FWIW, I had one dealer from NY quote me a $25k markup (in email!). Needless to say that got deleted and I moved on. Shop around and you can get a 2022 at msrp. One more fact... if you have status with United Airlines, use the fleet affinity credit and save yourself $1k. The dealer we went with honored it.
