my wheels/tires are coming tomorrow - and my current 22" amg wheel has these flower type patterns - and suprisingly the tire wrench that comes with the car is a HEX shape....
Why is the wrnech for backup tire is a HEX shape?
And will any of the 17MM flower type lug nut socket just fit? (eg. like this one from amazon
A 17mm socket will do the job but prolonged use with a regular socket can damage the lug bolt heads. The flower style socket will not damage the flower lugs.

Thank you. Do you know why teh spare tire jack/wrench comes with HEX if the wheels comes with flower heads? Or is the spare tire wrench something special that can work with flower heads? I am just thinking if one day i am stranded on side of road - how am i suppose to change the tire?

The wrench should work with the flower bolts. If you have a steel spare it comes with shorter hex bolts you must use for the steel spare as the aluminum wheels take longer bolts. MB supplies the 17mm wrench only I am sure because it is cheaper. I carry the flower socket in the MB and I also bring a 16 inch piece of pipe to use on the hex wrench for leverage as the torque is 111LBFT so removal may be difficult using the short handled wrench. I suggest you do a trial spare tire installation so you are ready in an emergency with the tools you need etc.

how do you get 111LBFT torque without a torque wrench?

I need to remove that torqued wheel first so that is why I have the pipe extension for the wrench. If I did not have a torque wrench with me (which I often do) I would check it ASAP after re-installation.
