Microchip Update!

Just noticed this on my dealer site. My new 2022 GLS450 is scheduled to arrive at the dealer today - I hope it has the chip in it already!!

What’s the update? The document says the Hermes module may not be installed. Is other information available?

I’m surprised that Mercedes is not concerned about the safety implications, because that module is used for all communication with the cloud, including the SOS that the car sends out in the case of an accident. Plus you don’t get other convenience features like live traffic.

In Mecedes' defence, I don't think they have a choice, unfortunately . I guess other than not shipping the car and losing customers to competitors (the car is still safe and meet all the safety regulations, but like what you said some safety features are not available, I am not going to talk about whether or not those features are critical though but if they were it wouldn't pass the country's inspection). but... it is just my opinion....
