Radar Detectors

I have long been a fan of valentine and that is what I have in my BMW. For the Benz I was thinking of getting another valentine or maybe a Uniden rumor r8 as I have heard good things. Has anyone had a Uniden and if so do you like it and would you buy another one?

I have an R7 in my 21 GLS 450 and love it. Much better than valentine v1 and previous escort I’ve had in regards to false alerts. However, nothing beats instant on except having laser jamming installed.

Stick with the V1 Gen2. Best stand alone detector out there.

I have 3 Gen 2 V1's, tried the Escort, but missed the arrows and the sensitivity seemed not as good, I like the V1 in California, we get Ka alerts way in advance of them seeing you. I also can attest to the arrows when CHP set up a 3 intersection trap over a 6 mile highway stretch. You get multiple alerts ahead, okay slow down, then pass that car. Then still, more alerts ahead and some behind, so keep going slow while others sped up past me. Well guess what, two more ahead and those two vehicles are caught, pulled over. The arrows and counter work great in that instance. Last speeding ticket I had as a laser hit 15 years ago, can't avoid that instant on bogey.

I have K-40's installed in my M-B's. K-40 includes jammer, front and rear. Never had a ticket since using K-40's.
Interior all you have is two led's on dashboard, one for front and one for rear. The led's can be turned off if an officer stops you.

Uniden R3 here, works great, highly rated for long range detection, reasonably priced.

I have a used, in perfect shape V1 that I'll sell for 200. It can be upgraded too per their site.

I had the Uniden R7 and have escort redline 360 and valentine v2 currently. Always use the v2.

Interesting how few Escort fans here. I've always been an Escort guy and currently have the MAX 360 CI installed.

I have direction and band indicator mounted center of dash and the mute button remotely on center console in a natural location for my hand/arm for easy easy muting. I also have phone vent mounted near shift stalk. Front and rear sensors mounted behind bumper (can't be seen) and the laser shifters are barely visible near headlights (no front license plate in Florida and I didn't install shifters on the rear). Interesting with the shifters. One can program how long they shift. The theory is it should shift for 3-5 seconds which is enough time to get down to the speed limit before LE realizes their being shifted. Shifters are not legal in FL. On long road trips, the Escort Live app is on my phone in the background but I keep Waze on top as better crowd sourcing. I use the MBUX navigation. Escort Live also has crowd sourcing showing where other Escort users are getting lit up around me.

It's not a cheap install/option but works damn well for all my cars for over 20 years. One caveat is Escort's customer service is BEYOND bad. Arrogant techies on the phone unwilling to actually help. It's beneath them. Typical programmer answer is "it should work" and they refuse to peel back the onion to find what an issue might be. I had one bad sensor and once diagnosed, sent new overnight and easy plug and play but it sure took along time for them to see the light after multiple calls and different person each time on the line.

About customer service. K-40 has provided excellent customer service both telephonically and in person. A unit in one of my cars went "dead", so I called customer service and they attepted to trouble shoot over the phone to no avail. They recommended taking the car to a K-40 dealer, which I did. Upon arrival the dealer discovered and replaced a blown fuse at the battery connection. I was back on the road in minutes.Just my 2 cents.

Best radar detector and laser jammers I've ever owned.
Stinger system. Not cheap but quiet, effective and super stealthy.

I now have a custom installed K-40, which is pretty good. I previously had an Escort CI-9000. Best system I ever had. Not only did it learn location of false alarms on on its own, but it was also able to reverse those marked locations on its own, if necessary. Plus it came with red light database. Escort was bought out a couple of years ago, and now it is just ridiculous how much they want; around $5K. The K-40 was just under $2K, installed.

Not mentioned about the K-40 is that in addition to the excellent radar detector it also has a laser jammer. The laser jammer works exceptionally well and it provides an additional layer of protection not available with other "detector only" devices. Other detectors will alert you that a laser has hit you but that is too late!!!!! K-40 gives you protection from all speed sensors.
My .02 !!

Yes, didn't mention it but I do currently have them, and had them with Escort as well.
