2020 GLS450 (US Spec) headlight lower reflector function?

Hi all, first time poster here. I have a US spec GLS 450 with multibeam. Does anyone know what the section below the low beams do on our headlights? This section is next to the interior cornering light (no bulb on US spec) and has 3 LEDs that comes on with the high beams. forum search yielded no results. Thanks in advance.

Hmmm I am probably wrong but isn't that a supporting reflector for the high beam? I doubt that is a fog light for example, the GLS only have rear "fog lights".

That what I thought also but I can’t find any literature that says what it’s supposed to do. It almost looks like its function is to fill in the fog area when the full beams are on. Strange.

not sure if this helps at all, but I found this video on youtube, as you can see when that reflector activates, what other lights turn on with it:
Here is another video:

BTW, if you can get the Intelligent Light System coding done for these, then you should do it. I believe those reflectors are part of that system, my S Class has them too

Thanks for all the replies guys. I appreciate the research you have done on my behalf.

I got the intelligent light coding done and oddly enough, that section stopped working. It was working before the coding only when the full beams are on; this was why I was curious of the functionality. Maybe its something I could live without or if it just functions differently after coding🤔. Not sure if others also lost functionality of that reflector after coding.

I am still working with Benzninja (Great guy 😁 ) to address it. He plans to revert it back to stock, see if that section works and the try the coding again. My car may just be being difficult but besides that, I am enjoying the ILS+ so far. I’ll report back if I ever get it fixed.

I see please keep us posted on what happened and if you ever figure it out, got me curious as well. Wonder if that was a setting in the coding that changed the behaviour.

As promised, I am back with final results. I worked with Benzninja today to get the lights resolved and I can say they are working again. Yay!! Although, I still don’t know how important that are. I’ll find out with a night drive tonight. The issue was resolved with a different firmware version. I guess there are different firmware depending on model year

Glad it is working, I mean whatever the function it is, working is better than not, after all you paid for it, Right : ) ? Can't complain about having more lights for exterior illuminance : )

I am experiencing the same issue with my 25 GLS. Are you currently using both multibeam and lower reflectors?
