GLS580 vs GLS450

We have a 2020 GLS 450 now (wife's car) - looking to replace it soon. I was originally looking to get another 450, but we really wanted rear seat entertainment which is only available on the 580. Overall, it looks like a $20k delta between the 450 and 580 when similarly specced. Is there anything else I'm missing? $20k seems like a big increase just for the V8 engine it seems?

I've ordered a 580 and my rep told me that rear seat entertainment is only available on the Maybach, not the 580 or 450. Can't answer your real question though- what all the differences are between 450 and 580. I was only interested in the V-8. I didn't spec a 450 but my 580 comes to right at $133K. Spec'd out a similar GLS 63 and it was $155K.

I just did a quick and dirty build of my car as a 450 and it came in at $104K. $29K less than my 580 build. Add in couple of big items that are not even available on the 450 that I ordered (E-active body control and off road pkg.) and there is only a $20K difference. There may be other standard items on the 580, but I didn't want to go through the entire standard list to look for them. So maybe there is a $20K premium just for the V-8. Plus 22 inch wheels and tires.

You are correct in your assumption that several paid add-on options from GLS450 are included as "standard" equipment on 580. I don't remember all the differences, but here is what I recall:
Soft close doors
Heated steering wheel
Leather instead of MB-Tex
Massage front seats

about $4.5K in these options

I included these when I did my quick 450 build and got to $104K, so I think we are still at a $20K premium for the larger engine.

I can get you some tablet mounts that go behind the front driver/passenger seats. I'll only charge you $18k, saving you 10% in the process!

Yes, these is about a 20k difference between similar spec GLS580 and GLS450 (i.e. add AMG Line, 22 inch wheels, exckusive trim, etc. to a 450 and don't put e-abc, off road package, or executive rear on the 580). The jump from an identicle GLE450 to a GLE580 or GLS450 is usually closer to 7-10k. So why so much more for the GLS580? Supply and demand.

And no, you can't get OEM rear seat entertainment on the 580.

You're right - I thought the 580 executive seat package had tablets, but it's just the table between the seats to control A/C, etc..

yes, it adds a tablet in the center console but not the two extra screens on the back of the front seats. That’s an option in other markets but not the US. It’s nice to have tablets that integrate with the car and can control the front but honestly for 99% of the time an iPad is just better and cheaper.

2024 S580
The V8 makes a huge difference in day to day driving enjoyment IMO. The 6 feels fine, its refined and smooth and has enough power, but the V8 really elevates it and gives it that effortless luxury car drive quality that the 6 lacks IMO.

Shopping for my wife where she would be the primary driver I would only look at the 6, for me where I would be the primary driver I would only consider the 8.

I am considering a GLS580 vs an S580 to replace my S560, optioned up the GLS is about $20,000 cheaper than a similarly optioned S580. Issue is I lease typically and the lease payments are similar because of the discounts available on the S Class.
