Is active driver assistant a standard option?

Looking for a new family hauler, got an X7 now. Since it was some of the first X7 to ever rolled out of the production line, I had all kinds of issues. I like the looks, and I like the way it drive, I just don't like BMW NA for how they handled my issues. Debating on if I want to go with another x7 or a GLS 450. When I had the S550, it was mostly troublefree and I really enjoyed the comfort. Test drove an EQS sedan and wife really likes it, we were considering the EQS SUV but decided that we wanted an ICE for longer trips. Not quite ready for EV just yet.

As I'm building out the GLS, I do not see an option for lane keep assist. BMW call this driver assistant package. Does it work pretty well or does it ping pong? I'd love some real life feedbacks from you guys.

GLS 450
Drivers Assist is now standard. I haven't noticed a lot of ping ponging yet, but I have only put 800 miles on the car so far.

I too was debating GLS vs X7. We have a 2014 X5 that has been stellar. Still love that car. Ultimately choose the GLS as the new front end of the X7 was too much for me.

We made a similar decision and felt the X7 was quite a bit smaller and needed the larger trunk w/the third row up (also turned off by the front).
I have the DAP (before it became standard) on my MY23 GLS450 and have not experienced ping ponging. It's probably the best semi-autonomous driving I've ever experienced!

Thanks this is good to know.

Read up on it a little, seems you can't use it until something like 37 MPH? Which means in a stop and go traffic, it wouldn't follow? So traffic jam assist?

Also you mentioned the trunk, visually the GLS does appear larger but reading somewhere it say the x7 is actually bigger with all 3 rows up.

As far as looks it's subjective, if I was buying it for my wife, the GLS IMO would suite her, she doesn't think so, she thinks the x7 looks better. X7=masculine, GLS=low key, I really wanted to say feminine but didn't want to offend anyone. LOL

The Driver Assistance Pkg became standard on the GLS for model year 2024. So if you happen to find a nice CPO '20-'23 model sitting on your dealer's lot, make sure it has the formerly optional Driver Assistance Pkg.

Happy Motoring!

Won't be looking at the < 23, it looks too dated IMO. But goo to know though.

You can use the adaptive cruise control with steering assist at any speed, regardless of traffic. The only difference I've noticed is that under approx 37 MPH, like in thick rush hour traffic, the car will happily drive itself and follow the car in front, without constantly reminding you to put your hands back on the wheel.

The GLS450 has 17.4 ft3 of space behind the third row (though review is of the MY23, MY24 is identical and confirmed by the MY24 Order Guide):
"This Benz offers a good amount of cargo space for a luxury large SUV. There is 17.4 cubic feet of room behind the third row. Behind the second row, there's between 42.7 and 48.7 cubic feet, depending on the position of the second-row seats. Folding down both rear rows opens up 84.7 cubic feet of room. "

The X7 just misses 13 ft3 behind the third row!
"The X7 has an average amount of cargo room for the luxury large SUV class, but the cargo capacity behind the third row seats is dismal compared to rivals. The BMW has a scant 12.8 cubic feet of room behind the third row, but this expands to a more respectable 48.6 cubic feet with the third-row seats folded down and 90.4 cubic feet with both rear rows folded. Power-folding second- and third-row seats and a hands-free power liftgate come standard."

Anyone who has ever test driven both cars and inspected the trunks with all rows up knows there's no comparison if you want to fit more than just umbrellas back there!
