'24 Steering Wheel swap?

Can you swap out the new steering wheel on the 2024 models with one from a 2020-23 model? I hate the touch pads and saw that they got rid of them with the new steering wheel.

I get it, but I heard it's complicated due to safety regulations

They didn’t get rid of the touch pads - they’re integrated into the surface of the buttons now.

Yes, but it looked like a larger surface area and I was hoping the responsive was better. I think the touch pads are atrocious, I'll just never get used to them. So anything different is better in my opinion.

Definitely a real cheap move by MB. Much cheaper vehicles still use physical buttons. Hopefully they realize their mistake and go back to buttons in the 168

Coming from 4 way buttons, I absolutely love the touch pads myself. They are very polarizing it seems.

The new wheel controls are a nightmare compared to the old ones. I would want to go BACKWARDS, if I got a 24 GLS I would want the wheel from the 20-23.

I had an EQS loaner with the same capacitive touch buttons for 2 weeks and couldn't get the accuracy I wanted with a decent amount of unintentional swipes doing things I didn't want to happen.

I'm not a fan of the new buttons, but I'm getting used to them. I stopped having to look down to hit the right button. Small volume adjustments seem impossible, so I use the scroll wheel in the center console instead.

That said, in no way is this better than the old controls. Nothing will ever change my mind.

So frustrating, where is MB getting the idea that people prefer the touch controls over a button? This is now three generations of swipe pads that have gotten bad reviews. Are there actually people out there that prefer this to a regular button to push? Even the center console touch pad is hard to use, having to hit the skip button before you can swipe to change a song (assuming you swipe in 3 seconds or less before the screen reverts back) and swiping now does something else that's unintentional. I think MBUX2 now has corrected that and given you permanent controls for skipping songs, but not for sure. I'm just in awe of how difficult the MB controls have been to use for almost a decade now. And I'm a tech nerd, love all the new and innovative stuff, but I don't see this changing ever, hopefully voice control gets really accurate and intuitive.

I vastly prefer swipe and gesture over buttons...

Interesting; do you accidentally swipe left/right when trying to swipe up/down ever? If you never do that (or swipe but nothing happens), I can see it not being an issue. I do inadvertent swipes all the time or get no response when swiping, so I hate it for that reason, but maybe it's just a me issue (well I know there are many others who hate it too, but maybe there are more people than I think that don't get accidental swipes.
