I have a GLS only 5000 miles on it and got these horrible looking white ? oxidized spots on the running boards which was noticed after I had minor service done at the dealer. Sprinkler likely. Dealer basically said not their problem. tried everything to get these white spots off. Told not under warranty on this new car. Any ideas? Dealer offered to try to buff it out, but I think they will make it worse.

I don't know what your definition of "Tried everything" is but if using ultra fine steel wool, warm water and dawn dish soap isn't included in "everything" I would give that a whirl. I have used that in the past on wheels, exhaust tips, etc to much success. You also could try Bar Keepers friend. Works great on stainless steel.

Not in my experience no, not if done correctly. Done by hand with 0000 steel wool this is essentially a magic eraser for metal. This isn't something you are going to lean into and scrub at. A couple light wipes and it's gone.
There are endless youtube videos on it, I suggest watching a couple beforehand. Most give you a list of supplies too.
