2020 I hate the running boards

I've been searching on a way to remove them but I need to find some piece to replace them.

Agree! When running boards are wet and dirty it gets all over the backside of your pants legs. I wonder if it’s possible to retrofit the new automatic drop-down running board on the Maybach? Or, simply remove them.

I did find a forum where someone was advised to find someone who didnt have them and swap parts. lol. I think the running boards are a standard item though. These GLS's dont ride high enough to need a step unless your 5' tall. All it does for me is cause me to sit my butt on the seat bolster when trying to get in which in turn is wearing the cushion out. And on a 4 year old vehicle that really sucks. I want the seat to last a long time.

I tried to order my 2024 GLS580 without running boards, but it wasn’t possible. I’m long-legged enough to step over them (but still get my pants leg dirty when it’s raining) but my wife despises the vehicle because it’s so difficult for her to get in and out. If there’s a way, I’d really like to get rid of them.

If you wear jeans all the time as I do, shimmying up the seat bolster often enough will leave a permanent blue stain on light seat covers like the macchiato beige that I have. I was expecting better running boards on the refresh. C'mon MB, get your act together.

I also tried to delete them on my 2025 GLS580 order and was unable to. However, they are an option on the GLS 450.

Huh. I've had GL/GLS's for the last 15 years or so - and NEVER had the running board make my pant leg dirty or cause me a problem.

I didn't say the running board made your pants dirty. What I said was that trying to avoid using the running boards completely and trying to step directly onto the seat bolster will cause abrasion and if you are wearing dark jeans, that abrasion will result in dye transfer to the seat.

I don't recall that running boards were an option on my GLS 450. But practically speaking, even if they were an option, there are no GLS 450s coming into the market where I live without running boards. None.

Do you Lower the vehicle (Car icon->Lower) before getting out? That seems to resolve this issue for me since my wife and I can step directly out without making contact with the running boards. My daughter can use the running boards with her tiny feet to get in.

I’m embarrassed to say I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll see how that works for her..

GL350 Bluetec and GLS580
MY GL350 didn't come with them, I added them once kids came into the family picture. I think its a very necessary tool for them (kids) after seeing them struggling to get in and out of the GL. Without them "they" get the mud and dirt from the door sills on their clothes. I still have the old removed rocker panels in the garage.

I feel they are just in the way on the GLS580, truck is too low to need them and too high step over them without being awkward. - Would love to remove them and replace with the Maybach 600 side skirt (still searching for the part #). Didn't realize they were optional on the 450, may search for the standard version from that.

Yes, they were optional on the 450 but not on 580. Why on one and not the other?

2021 GLS 450 & 23 GLS 450. Have a Holden Commodore, Jeep, truck, and more
My 450 didn't have running boards when I purchase it, but I installed some aftermarket knockoffs because MB wouldn't sell me the OEM ones. I am not sure what happened to the factory trim, but it does exist as mine had it.

This is where I am heading - not sure reasoning of even having them - GLS450 and Maybach both start life without them. I guess GLS580 owner are more vertically challenged.
