Has anyone replaced a headlight?
Took a rock somehow to the headlight this morning and it split it from the corner. This is a $1500 part and about a $2000 repair total, had anyone attempted to do this themselves? At that price it's almost an insurance claim if the removal and installation are as difficult as everything else is with these cars. I found a few videos but they were all for the previous gen and that obviously doesn't help me.

Lol. That is where we are at currently. I'm not sure it's worth it to file a claim but I also don't want to pay the $2700 either.
But I need to know what needs to come off in order to get at it.

A single comprehensive claim shouldn't affect your rates, but cumulative claims might change your "claims experience," as insurance companies call it.

Exactly. I can source a used assembly from eBay for basically the cost of my comp deductible. If I knew what I was getting myself into labor wise that may solve my entire problem. But if the fender or the front clip needs to come off and it's not accessed from the wheel well or the engine compartment I'm probably punching over my weight class.

Thanks Widta, I appreciate it but we are way past that at this point lol.
Last night I started getting tons of light failures and and 12v system failures. I am gonna need the whole assembly.
And just to be clear, the cover is cracked, there is no damage to the lights at all. At least not from damage. It is absolutely insane to me that I am getting so many errors on so many systems over this light simple no longer being sealed. This has by far been my most dismaying experience thus far with these finicky cars.

Just the amount of time he has saved me answering questions in my garage rather than waiting 3 weeks to get a service appointment, then keeping the car outside doing nothing for 4 days after I drop it off, only to tell me the same thing Peter could have told me in 15 minutes, at home, in pajamas, eating a turkey sandwich has been invaluable.
These aren't Fords or Chevys. If you aren't interested in spending a little money to maintain your investment you probably should own a Ford or a Chevy.

It's important to take care of your cars, no matter what avenue/source you choose.
I get similar service from my shop, from the SA, the Service Manager or the tech, via phone call, call back or email.
It "pays" to have a good relationship with the Back End.
This forum is valuable too.

Take it to the dealer and you good to go with OEM parts and brand new headlights no question asked - at least Mbenz will be aware and your future warranty claims following anything related to this claim are all connected.

X167 is still technically brand-new and under warranty for most/all owners nowadays except early 2020s adopters. Ownership, repairs and other items should come with zero cost to most owners here, so I agree that the Ford comment make no sense here and is irrelevant. Long-term ownership cost, of course, GLS will cost more than a Ford, but man current repair costs and parts even for Ford are soooooo expensive nowadays just like a benz.
Some may have time to wait, and wait and wait more. I do not. What I do have is means. And if I can solve a problem with my wallet and not my calendar that is a win for me. And Peter provides that. Different strokes for different folks obviously but I stand by what I said. Peter offers a very affordable, helpful, IMMEDIATE service that I cannot get in my area with these vehicles.
And nobody was also trying to be deceptive in the least. I came here looking for a video to complete the repair myself. Not looking to shill for Peter. But when prompted, I gave my opinion. Anyone suggesting otherwise would be incorrect.
Lastly, Mikapen is 100% spot on. This forum is just as valuable as any service paid or free. That is provided the members stay on track and actually offer some help and not try to hijack a thread of course.
I appreciate everyones $.02 but despite Peter helping me source the parts I needed, all I wanted to know is if anyone completed the repair themselves or knew of a video existed showing the repair. I know what my warranty is. I know how insurance works.
