Why so hard to find good used GLS 450?

I’ve been searching for a used 2022 GLS 450, but I’ve noticed that there are significantly more BMW X7s available compared to the GLS. Why is the supply so low? Is it because more people are buying the X7, making the GLS less common on the used market?

You said a MY22 GLS so supply chain issues were still terrible. It was even an issue when I was searching for a MY23 (dealers in my area wanted way above MSRP!).

You didn't mention what year the X7s were but there could be more supply because folks are simply offloading them in favor of other cars!

My local Mbenz dealer was charging over MSRP for any GLS they sell. Many people decided to pass so I don’t know if they actually sold that many. Also, people tend to keep their GLS quite longer than other cars/brands. It’s a great family hauler, and the fact Mbenz hasn’t made major updates yet (99% the same car today), means that most people decided to keep their GLS so not many of these sold ones returned to dealers. It is still one of the best SUVs on the market today (or frankly the best today), so I wouldn’t be surprised if more people decided to keep their GLS.

Curious, what are you looking in a GLS? Anything special that made it hard to find one?

2021 GLS 580
Try finding a 580, there are basically none.
What region ? Every dealer in California has 4-5 CPO GLS 450 and none of them have GLS 580.

2024 S580
Its because the X7 has a higher lease percentage vs the GLS. If you look at leases they are much better on the X7, and the GLS really not much cheaper than financing. So more X7 buyers lease and more GLS buyers finance and thus their cars don't get returned at 3 years like a lease.

A GLS580 lease $20k cheaper than my S580 was $400 a month MORE to lease as an example.

2021 GLS 450 & 23 GLS 450. Have a Holden Commodore, Jeep, truck, and more
I have had to travel for mine. My first one was out of state and the one I bought a couple weeks ago was in state, but out of town. It opened up far more options not being tied to a small radius.

I am VERY selective too. According to my phone album, I owned/bought 10 cars in the last 6 years. 8 of them were bought OUT of state and I traveled to go get them. And, on average, I spent months and months searching for each. It took me 1+ year to find my 2nd W222 with all features I wanted (2000 miles away). It took me 3 years searching for a unique Alpina either B7/Xb7/B8, until I stumbled with a B8 Alpina which I loved - still had to travel out of state and ended up buying it.

This. It will also be harder if you restrict yourself to MB dealers as they would rather sell new vehicles than search for a very specific used one.

Fully agree... Before i bought my current B8, I was discussing with my dealer a deal on either a new M8, new M850, or to buy that 7K miles Alpina B8. They were dying to push me to choose the brand-new option and offered 15K discount for the M8, and 8K on the M850, wherein they've only moved 2K on the B8 and tried their best to make it my last option. I simply chose the one that I want more, granted it was the best decision financially too. I can still do tax deduction under my own business for whatever is the business use % is, whether it's a pre-owned car or brand new one, so in both cases, depreciation is the only factor that mattered followed by which one I wanted more too. Dealers love to move new cars more than pre-owned ones for sure.
