Jerky Downshifting when stopping
Type of Claim:
The client reports that the vehicle experiences a "jerking or headshake" sensation when reducing speeds and downshifting from D5 to D4. Additionally, when the vehicle is moving and accelerating, it makes a "thumping noise" in the transmission.
Description of the Claim:
The car was brought in for a mechanical diagnostic.
Cause:
Upon inspection at the workshop, no active fault codes were found. A road test was performed with the client, during which the reported conditions were identified. Data from the vehicle was extracted to review consultations with the factory support team.
Final Evaluation of the Claim / Solution:
An update (presumably software) was performed, and the transmission fluid was checked and found to be at the correct temperature. After road tests, it was confirmed that the condition had improved, but not entirely. Therefore, a reconfiguration of the transmission control unit was performed. After further road tests, the reported conditions were completely corrected.

The update dealer did to GLS virtually solves it - good luck! Here’s a pic of the notes during repair.

The 2024 procedure for Stand Still Adaptation seems to fix the situation. Mine's been great since it was applied.
The 2024 procedure is new and easier to perform. Therefore shops are more likely to do it. I don't think they were well compensated before, partly because the results were unreliable, and because it took two technicians, on the road, to do the task.
In either case, it needs to be repeated until there's confirmation. Two to five times it seems.
Now it's reliable and effective.

Tranny perform adaptations programmatically by learning from its own historical shifts.
Over the next 5k.Miles, pay attention to how great tranny learn shifts from now on:
- Good: self-improving towards seemless or
- Bad: back to delayed random slow shifts ?
Fresh ATF sooner than later... 40kMi

Unrelated, I think the suspension MUCH more compliant on this 26 as well, and again, identical, mechanically, to my knowledge. Tire pressures same, as well .
