GLS580 Buyback
I've been on a search for a unicorn GLS580 with Captains chairs and E-ABC. A dealer just reached out with one in their inventory, but the catch is that it's a buy back. Should I run for the hills on this one? I normally would say absolutely not but the sales rep (doing his job) was saying that buyback from CA and FL tend to be very lenient and often times it could be a buy back simply b/c they had to wait on parts for a long time. This particular car is a buy back from CA.

Dealer got back to me and said it was electrical faults and the official buyback paperwork says "Engine Function Concerns". Yeah... I'm going to pass on this one.

That does not shock me (that it is in Illinois)...That dealer has a TERRIBLE reputation (as compared to Motor Werks who is in Barrington). In Illinois a consumer has almost no rights...well, unless you are consuming healthcare and want to sue a medical facility....There is never, ever a good reason to go to or do business in Illinois.

I bought a Lexus GS430 from MW, was a great car so long as you didn’t turn the wheel, then it was a whirlytop ride!
To the GLS. Dude, just read the Carfax itself. Look at how many times it had to have the spark plugs replaced! And the exhaust?? That ain’t’ no electrical gremlin brother. The GLS (and basically every 48v mild hybrid MB) are known for basically just one electrical gremlin….the 48v battery itself. Some have had bad ones, some of us have had good ones (I’m one of the good ones thankfully). But when you’re pulling the plugs multiple times like that car, that just reminds me of the small handful of former AMG owners who saw their engines basically just eat themselves. I wouldn’t touch that car with a ten foot pole!
Furthermore, I wouldn’t buy any car from Chicago, especially one with low profile tires!!
2011. moved from Chicago to DC. Had a 2007 VW GTI, was making a funny humming noise on this smooth blacktop. Took it to the VW dealer. They called me to ask if I had been in an accident with the car. I said no, but why? Turned out ALL 4 rims were bent to hell and back, and they asked what in the world did I hit that cause that? I said “Chicago”. Never saw that car again. Tossed them the key and a check for a brand new one off the lot and drove home..

I had a first year Audi Q8. That was my first mistake. What an absolute disaster of a vehicle. Just google Q8 throttle delay. It could have been a lemon but Audi, and I would all manufacturers opt for a buyback to protect some value in the vehicle. I took the buyback because it was a shorter process to get my money back. As the owner why would I care if it was a Lemon or a buyback, I just wanted my money back which I got. It took a whole YEAR to get. I dont care how low the price is I would never ever buy a car that was designated "buyback" or "lemon". I am telling you that car almost certainly would have been a lemon if they didn't buy it back. I'd rather dive a cheaper brand new car than a one of those.
