Like new, never used as an ash tray. You can see in the picture that the lighter has never been used. You will have to remove your trim piece (the brushed aluminum or wood trim, it detaches easy) and attach it to the door so that your interior will match. Yes, you are right. The ashtray changed for the face lift years 05-07.

So I got curious and started looking for pictures of 2002-2004 W203s on Ebay and found this pic of one with the ash tray open. Looks like that the later year ashtrays from 2005-2007 will drop right in, but you will gain an extra cigarette lighter and the ashtray itself is smaller. You wouldn't have the wiring for the lighter in the 2002-2004 so you would have to add that.
