Hong Kong market crashed last night so there's going to be some pain today. I'm down 10% pre-market. I might pick some more up but quite frankly I already loaded the truck and am overweight China stocks. Think I'll just ride it out. This is why I went with Xpeng instead of something more popular like BYD, NIO or LI. Xpeng is sitting on a massive pile of cash and can weather any storm.
My only worry about Tesla is 100% politics. Elon is going to be the target of every angry libtard if the orange man wins. Rivian currently has a part shortage problem but for some reason which part exactly is somewhat of a mystery. Their cash burn rate also worries me. If they can execute with the new R2 models great but if this part shortage slows them down and they keep burning through cash... er, um, well... I'm sure they'll get more money from Amazon.
Boy am I glad I didn't buy a Fisker Ocean like I was thinking when I started this thread though! That would have been a truly monumental waste of money.

I see another hit coming. We are currently waiting on Mr. Milton to show up in FL. One of our neighbors (the only left leaning person in our particular block) literally has gone door to door asking those of us if we have a "Jenny" that is able to charge them up in a pinch - as their only cars are EV (two Teslas).
There is already a line of Tesla's at the mall (where the chargers are). We fully expect no electricity (or gasoline) for about 7-10 days. They are advising against trying to evacuate in an EV (according to the Sherriff this AM on the radio). So - there we have it. More real world, a world that 'might' manipulate the stocks the futures a bit on every company in this segment.

An EV won't hydrolock like a gas car so you'd think it would actually be the better choice for an escape vehicle. That's what I drove when a hurricane hit around here. I posted a pic in this thread where there were lines for gas but not for EV charging: https://mbworld.org/forums/eqe-suv-x...-flying-j.html
That little blinking AI assistant in NIOs soooo reminds me of the paperclip thing they used to have in MS Office before someone came to their senses. I'd have to put my hat over it to avoid the urge to smash it in the face.

My TRS-80 Model III would boot straight into Microsoft Basic where I could For T = 0 to 65535:Print Chr$(Peek(T));:Next T and see everything in memory, like passwords, in plain text. I've forgotten more about programming than these AI coding, snot-nosed kids will ever know.
Seeking Alpha has a new article about XPeng too. The last bullet of the summary also sums up my feelings on the stock:
XPeng's financials show improving vehicle margins and a strong cash buffer, with potential for positive free cash flows and significant upside in 2025 and beyond.
... and the China stock selloff continues. I bought a little NIO back. Still holding all my XPEV shares. Nothing short of an invasion of Taiwan will spook me into selling.

Water is actually a very poor conductor of electricity. It's the salt that's the problem and that's just as corrosive to an ICE vehicle. But I'm sure facts won't get in the way of fake news. The war machine runs on oil so we need more oil. The planet can get as warm as hell as far as they're concerned. The devil worshiping warmongers probably prefer it that way.
Man this China selloff is killing me. I guess I'm just going to have to buy more.
Pure water is a poor conductor, but naturally occurring water can conduct electricity moderately well due to impurities that are usually present. Salts (seawater) enhance the conductivity. It's not just the corrosive nature of seawater that's the problem. Every chemistry class does the electrolysis experiment, splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen using a battery and a beaker of saltwater. I once used electrolysis to remove much of the corrosion from the interior of a metal motorcycle gas tank, caused by water separating from ethanol contained in the fuel. Saltwater can be damaging to the electrical systems of any vehicle.

The high voltage battery is liquid cooled so it's already water tight. There's absolutely nothing to worry about. Some EVs like the Yangwang U8 are even specifically designed to handle this situation:
If these EVs are water tight they should make them amphibious with propellers like the old West German Amphicar 770 unless they are indeed boat anchors. I always liked 007 Roger Moore’s Lotus Esprit Wet Nellie, that became a submarine in “The Spy Who Loved Me”.

In the Cybertruck video it even says it pressurizes the battery pack for wade mode. All that extra weight probably helps it not float away too. Just sayin'! Don't shoot the messenger!
I'm waiting for the 2025 model with the Periscope Package.
The daily chart shows that the XPEV share price bottomed at $6.57 in April and August. A double-bottom pattern is one of the most bullish signs in the market. It has also moved above the key resistance point at $10.50, the double-bottom’s neckline. The stock has also formed a golden cross pattern as the 200-day and 50-day Exponential Moving Averages (EMA). In most periods, this is one of the most bullish signs in the market.
Therefore, the stock will likely rise as bulls target the 50% retracement point at $15, which is about 40% jump from the current level.
I really don't see how I can lose on this one. Would take an invasion of Taiwan to mess this up.

I said it before and I'll say it again, we need China more than they need us.
The luxury carmaker cut its full-year profit margin target twice during the third quarter, joining a growing number of European rivals blaming a weakening Chinese car market for falling profits and margins.
Chinese demand is currently focused on affordable electric cars. And Mercedes has nothing to offer here.

I took some Xpeng gains and bought some Li Auto. Nio gets all the attention from day traders but Li Auto is actually making money and like XPeng they're sitting on a pile of cash.
If Lucid's Gravity flops, and given the horrible timing that's a distinct possibility, I predict the Saudi royals pull an Elon/Twitter move and take the company private. They already own ~60% and the remaining 40% would only cost a couple billion more. Prince Salman probably has that much under his mattress right now.
Ford has shuttered its F150 Lightning assembly plant for the rest of this year. They've taken a huge loss (almost $4 billion in the first 9 months this year) which comes to about $55K/vehicle. Sales are way below targets and expectations.

Yeah, Porsche and Lucid both decided to delay their new EVs until the worst possible moment. Some competition from China might have helped move things along faster, just sayin'. It's really not just EVs though. Two of the ICE vehicles I was thinking about trading-in my EQE 500 SUV for are mentioned in this recent Harry's Garage video, the Lotus Emira and Aston Martin Vantage. I guess I should just resist the urge to spend money on expensive cars right now.

I sold a bunch at $15.60 day after above post. Kind of wish I had sold it all right now. I made back the Lambo I had lost anyways. Guess I'm holding out for yacht money at this point. Anyways, I'm sort of retiring from trading at the end of this year. Quite frankly, I don't need the money and I just don't find it entertaining anymore. There are other things I'd rather be doing. Plus the companies that are doing the best (the "magnificent"/evil seven) I absolutely hate and I kind of feel like I have to invest against my own best interests to make money. I guess I'm just not willing to make that deal with the Devil.
The last figure I saw regarding Canada, was only 1% of Canadians had adopted EVs. If only I could use that information to buy or sell, or short an EV stock.

China is now so far ahead in the EV race there's really no chance the rest of the world will catch up. Legacy auto is determined to go down with the oil tanker, er, um, ship.
Three-quarters of all electric cars in the world are made by Chinese companies! That puts all the frothing at the mouth over tariffs in Europe and the US in perspective. Those countries have every right to be worried about their domestic auto industries, which are so clearly unable to compete with their Chinese rivals.

Mercedes' EV partner ChargePoint is now $1.06 a share! Wow! Aw, what the $#@%, I'll take a 1000. Better odds than Vegas or Atlantic City anyways and I'm bored. LOL
