C43 vs. 04,05 Subaru WRX/STi

My kill story happened in Feb. when I was bringing my 98' C43 home from the dealership in North Jersey. I had just gotten off the NJ Turnpike and was headed south on I-295. My girlfriend was following behind me in her 2000 C230K in the left when she called me on my cellphone to warn me about some idiot comimg up in the right lane at very fast pace.I looked in my rear view to see him zig-zagging in and out of traffic. He caught up to us and cut-off my girlfriend and slipped in behind me and was riding my bumper for about a 1/8th of a mile then cut right across 3 lanes of traffic pass the congestion and then came back to the center lane to give me the eye. This had to be a newer model Sti - it had a rather large whaletail on it.He gave me a look as if to say " anytime you want to get out of way".Well I looked over and pointed straight ahead and we were off.Now mind you , we are traveling about 75 mph. at this point.I stepped on it on it and we were off , I started causing separation right away , 85.....95.........105 at 105 he was about 2-1/2 cars back.....115...........125.........135 at this point he stopped pursuit, he either wasn't experienced enough to handle his vehicle at that speed or he just got his AMG education........either way he failed. And for the record.....yes I would have taken the car all the way to its 155 electronically governed limit.

Hmmm

I never really thought about racing an STI. My friend just bought one and was bragging about how slow and outdated my car was. It makes me feel a little good to know a C43 could take one from a roll. I will be annoying my friend tomorrow. Great Kill!

I drove one (Sti) a few weeks ago. Very fun car to drive but the aero is so bad (big ugly wing does not help...) that high speed is not its playground... They have 300hp in America due to a 2.5 liter engine instead of the European 2.0l...

Yes, at highway speeds the C43 will take an STI fairly easily. It would be interesting to see them match up in the city. The STI's awd makes it lethally quick light to light. I think that from a stop the C43 would start to pull only after 70mph. Hey Jon R maybe you and your friend should try that out! Not that I'm trying to encourage street racing or anything.

STi's, and all subarus for that matter, loose their power at high speeds. These things were built to sell to people who buy based on 0-60 times and wing altitude. I auto-x with some guys who run these things and they're extremely fast around the track with awd and their low speed power, but high speeds are not their forte`.

Well, I was wrong. I did a run with my friend who owns a stock STi yesterday. I dont have my C43 anymore but my Volvo have equivalent stats and power than a C43. We did 2 runs on the highway from a roll (from about 30mph) and he killed me easily both time. I believe the Subby you had a run against was maybe a regular WRX with the big UGLY wing...

What volvo do you own that has the same stats as a C43? I dont recall the V70R being as fast.

They are about the same in term of speed...
-Acceleration is equivalent
-Braking is better in the MB
-Handling is better in the R
-MB look and feel better
-R is a pratical fast winter family car ...

I can tell you from my experience but I'm sure you'll find the same if you search on the web.

Just thinking about it now, the STi is a 300hp car that runs the 1/4 in the low 13 second range at about 105mph. That is a pretty damn good mph.

I still wouldnt feel confident racing an STi.

I don't have the powercurve chart on the Subaru ( not sure what model it was ) but remember.....We were doing about 75 when he decided that he was gonna ( try - unsucessfully ) to take me.A few other people have said that in the upper end that the Subaru isn't where it makes it money, it normally shoots its wad from 0-60.

The STI is a hot little car and quite fun to drive. I just got to drive my friend's tonight. We haven't raced (and I usually won't on public roads {excluding a little solo "highway tune-up" every now-and-then}, but I get the sensation that my C43 pulls much harder from 60 mph.

Ive really been searching for an Evo or an STi willing to play...

I think the hardest part will be finding a stock one.

I'm not expecting to win, but if I do, I will be pleasantly suprised.
