Not a Kill but Funny

Driving home today I noticed a Mercedes Convertible several car lengths ahead of me, he was zooming from lane to lane and racing from traffic light to traffic light and on this particular road there is no shortage of them. He was one of those who wants everyone to notice him. I worked my way thru traffic and finally got in the lane behind him and as he was racing to the next light I rapidly accelerated towards him. He noticed me coming, I could see him looking in the rearview mirror. I had an opening at the light and got beside him. Since the light just turned red, I decided to put my top down too, he could see the V12 on the side, I looked at him and motioned forward. The light turned green and he decided to make this the slowest acceleration for himself in about 3 miles down this road. I drove along slowly at first and then showed him the power. By the way the car was a CLK and I am pretty sure it had a 430 after it, I didn't even know there was such a model.

Before I get bashed, I wasn't looking to race the guy, and I know I would easily beat him if I did, it was more one of those situations, where this guy was acting like a hot shot racing from light to light beating honda accords, etc, which can make some people feel bad, jealous or whatever, I was willing to allow him to experience the same feelings.

Vomit is his last name, it's French.
So you think you're hot **** because you drive an SL600 eh? I'm guessing you go to FSU juding by your location since there's nothing else there.
Man, it makes me wish I stayed and went to UF. I would've been rolling in some sort of nice car. Oh well. One thing's for sure, I wouldn't feel special by the car I drove...

edit:
Oh ****, sorry, judging by the site, you're not some kid. Oh well, my mistake. My commentary still stands though: chill out and enjoy your ride. The guy in the convertible probably think's he's hot ****.

Pronounced "Vom-ee"

I just consider myself lucky that I am not one of the "Pustules" (pronounced poos-too-ley. . . a prominent Italian family here in San Diego)

Nice car, BTW. Looks great stopped, and will look even better racing.

You forgot "blow chow," "feed the birds," "spit dinner," "rainbow exhale." It may sound digusting, but many So. Cal. chicks view it as an integral part of their weight-loss plan.

BTW: Can you think of some synonyms for "gullible?"

OWN3D!!!!

Wow, whats up with everybody flaming Stephen here? Damn, he just shared a story, like it or hate it, nothing much any of us can do about it. I thought it was pretty intresting, funny? Sure. I found it so, much like Vomit's name. And Stephen, you think you're tough **** in you're SL, huh? NEWSFLASH: you are! Despite what dead_eye fool said. One things for sure, hes envious of you. Wether he admits it or not.

And Stiggs, give him a break-- just because he owns three Mercedes shouldn't automatically mean he needs to be an expert on the marque, now does it?

The whole story seems a bit redundant to me, a CLK 430 is a nice enough car to be able to drive with some authority. Its not as fast as an SL600, but i dont see that as demeaning in any way. Also, i wouldnt be so sure you made him jealous, i like the SL, but if i was going to drop that much cash on a two seater performance car, it wouldnt be a Mercedes. Dont get me wrong, i like the SL, i just think its a bit premature to let it blow your ego up like a blowfish, i dont think that any car should do that. I also find it amusing that someone could have 300+ posts, a set of SLs ranging nearly a decade of MB history, and not know that the 430 engine was put in the CLK. I drive a CLK, and if you would have whipped me like you did him, i wouldnt have watched you fly off into the distance wishing i had your car, i would be wondering why you didnt by an F430.

Really? What a nice story. Now, while you're wondering why he didn't get the F430 or 360 Modena whichever, Im wondering why does that Ferrari push out enough torque only to rival a civic? Or in the F430s case a Camaro? And why is it so ugly? And why buy that when I could buy the Vette and for much cheaper, and stomp out the Ferrari? Thats what Im wondering. Premature? Yeah, considering I could dish out 2 times what the Ferrari can muster, and beat it to 60 and beyond. And still have another hundred grand or so to mess around with. Now, before you insist the F430 is faster, wait until this day. Afterwhich, we may further discuss the issue.

My point is, once you get into hundred K plus sports cars, taste comes into play. Not which is faster-- why do you reckon anyone would by a Aston Martin Vanquish over an F430? The F430 is faster. Yet, I see a vanquish in Newport everyday. Do you really think that owner gives a **** that te F430 is faster? Probably not.

Wow you guys

Wow you guys are unbelievable, all this talk about ego etc...

I met the actually driver this evening at a gas station near a community we both live in, he actually just moved here about a month ago from the tampa area, a self employed mortgage broker. He commented about my car saying he would love to be able to have one of them one day and I also complimented him on his Car and how nice the silver looked and how much easier it must be to keep looking good then the black. I told him about this forum and my post about our experience, and about some of the comments from people, HE LAUGHED along with ME about it. I was also right he was hot ******* it on his way home, and the particular road lends itself to people doing just that. He said he would check out the forum if he actually joins in, I will point him to this thread to chime in. He's a nice guy, enjoying his ride, same as me. Some posters need to lighten up.

Ferrari

I looked very briefly at buying a Ferrari, I always liked the looks of them. The downside for me was no local dealer or even a dealer remotely local to my area. Also the warranty on the car was very short. I don't remember exactly but I think it was a year or two at the most. Every person I ever spoke to about them that had any real first hand knowledge about them said the car was definately not a daily driver. I want a car I can drive as often as I want and don't need to really be concerned with it. My old SL320 has 130,000 miles on it and still runs and looks good. Mercedes gives a good warranty, lots of nice features, some with glitches, but dealers are readily available to handle the issues.

Those are all great reasons for buying an SL.

As far as the comment about knowing the model

As far as the comment about knowing the model, it's hard to keep up with Mercedes, the have so many different models now and seem to be adding more constantly, but I did go to MBUSA last night and I looked and only saw a 320 and 500 not a 430 on their site. Give me a break, about knowing the manufacturers entire product line.

MB has gone nuts with all these new model versions. The 430 was replaced by the 500 and the 320 will be replaced by the 350.

Yes, thus MY personal taste would prefer the Ferrari over the MB.

Gee i wonder where they're getting the idea to talk about ego? Just so you know Lexani, im not one of these tools who goes around bashing you all the time, i've actually defended you on occasion. But your claims about Ferrari's lacking performance abilities are just stupid. For one, ferrari doesnt need as much HP as Mercedes because of the performance-mindedness of the ENTIRE car, not just the engine...bare carbon fiber interiors, racing seats, fixed roofs (rather, absense of a cool, but chunky, folding hard top). Basically, its a different philosophy of building cars, mercedes makes their cars heavy and comfortable, its like a spa treatment...oh yeh you have to do that driving thing while you're in there too. You get leather, electronics, automatic gearboxes, etc, which are all fine by me, and like StephenK said, it makes for a GREAT daily driver. I dont think its necesssarily fair to compare the two because they are built for completely different purposes. However, since they do compete for the same market audience, and since we already are comparing them, ill play along. Ferrari makes the WHOLE car to perform, and has consistently proven themselves on the track and on the street. I have cited in the past how Enzo Ferrari only began making street cars in order to fund his racing ventures, and up until the 1962 250 GTO, Ferrari's street cars were just road going versions of their track cars.
As for you claims about Ferrari being "ugly" ( ) i think you are the ONLY person i have EVER spoken with who is of that opinion, but to each his own. I just have a hard time putting "ugly" together with this (thanks for the pic, btw):
Performance wise, you're just wrong. The F430 will beat you to sixty by half a second. Given these numbers, i dont think that Ferrari is in sad shape for "lack of torque". What IS sad though its that MB only makes 490 HP from a 6.0L V12, and Ferrari can squeeze that out of a 4.3L V8, which i might add is the same size engine that StevenK beat, because Mercedes only got 270HP and less than 300 pound feet of torque out of that engine size. i mean, do you realize that BMW can squeeze 333hp out of a 3.2? The 6.0L SHOULD have more torque than the 4.3, it has 4 more cylinders and 1.7 more litres. So where's the problem?

Exactly, who can keep up with all these different models and changes. If I ever need to know the product line for sure I will PM the guy who posted earlier, he must have them all memorized.

Thats no problem, im sure if you asked me about the engines before the 320/430 era i would get a bit fuzzy. My picking on it was mainly triggered by the above quotes, sorry if i grilled you too much. Dont get the idea that i dont like the SL, i would just be out for a performance car if i was going to spend that much, but i think the SL is great at what it does (daily driver supercar with easy access to service). Your car its definitely sweet. Let me know how your Zaino experiments go.

I will let you know about the Zaino, I was skeptical about it at first, but on my old SL320 it absolutely amazed me. I was using the MB paint cleaner and paint care products and thought they were doing a decent job on the paint except for the bumpers, they didn't doing anything to enhance them, but the Zaino, now that stuff really looks sharp, the bumpers especially the rear looked faded and the Zaino makes it look as good as new. The true test will be to see how long it actually lasts.

On the 600, I am hoping the Zaino does not attract the dust and light debris that the MB products seems to attract to the car. The day I finished the 600 with MB products I went for a ride, some lady was blowing her driveway clean out in the road of course I went thru it and when I got out at home, I could not believe my eyes, I think it all stuck to my car. We shall see how it works I am going to do it this weekend.
