CLK320 vs G35

havent raced in a long time. been taking it easy on the road. was driving home from a bar last night, had 2 friends inside. we were stopped at a light. this black on black G35 rolls up. i look over and inspect my competition. first thing my friends and i noticed was his "turbo" guages running up his left pillar. im thinking out loud, "no way this guy has a turbo" i havent seen a G35 on the streets of OC with it. all the G35s that ive raced was put to shame. my friend sittin shotgun says, dont race him hes got a turbo! im still in denial. i then notice his 19inch rims. so im taking in effect thats going to slow him down even more. i lower my window to maybe hear his turbo whining or anything. nothing. quiet like a stock G35.

the light hits green, we roll off casual. sounds like a stock G35 to me! im still in comfort mode and hit the gas to pass the car ahead of me. i hit my hazard lights to let him know im ready and slowed to a creep. his HID lights flickering through traffic, he pulls to the left lane of me but a 3rd of a cars length ahead and hits it. his car whines but slowly pulls ahead. the nerve of this dood! what happened to a fair fight?!

so i tap button to sport, hold the shifter to the left changing from D to gear 1. it downshifts a bit to about 3000rpm and i punch it. my car lurches forward gaining the lead he took without notice! just barely redlining it, i flick my wrist switching to 2nd. passing him about a 1 cars length. another time for 3rd, its about 1 car and a half, then all of a sudden i hear this blasting noise come from behind on the left. my ego shrunk with the sound of what i was afraid of, a turbo........the G35 just flies, catches up to me and pasts me about 2 car lengths. its over we both managed to stop and slow down from a cop ahead. i think he saw the whole thing. LOL and my friends were right, he did have a turbo. silly me. for the next 20secs all i heard was, "i told you so"

i pull up next to him and give him a thumbs up and smile. havent had a rush like that in awhile. makes me feel ****ty, i shouldve got the 500, or blew my money on a kleeman s/c or went to brabus instead of blowing it on my rims. lol go figure.

Yah i don't really see how a clk320 is able to take any stock g35, that would just defy physics... Unless you're hiding some mods

i dont know what kinda G35's you have seen, but all ive raced here around OC arent so tough.

Hmm, are you sure it's been G35's you're racing??

If so, you're right: they can't drive. Those cars weigh less than your car, and have much more power. The CLK320 is a low 15 second car, while the G35 is a low 14 second car. That's a pretty big gap to close, and I don't think the 10 or so horses your mods would gain you would make up the 45 (G35 sedan) to 65 (G35 coupe) horsepower difference we're talking here.

I mean, even the lower horsepower G35 sedan w/5 speed auto runs a full second faster 0-60 than a CLK320:

Motor Trend's test of G35 sedan: 0-60 in 6.2

Motor Trend's test of CLK320: 0-60 in 7.2

Another Motor Trend test of CLK320: 0-60 in 7.2

And the coupe is even faster, especially with the manual:
http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...g35/index.html

Kinda find it hard to believe that you've "put all of the G35's to shame", unless you're running nitrous or a supercharger. You're down 45 horses to the sedan, 65 to the coupe, and you're about 50 pounds heavier.

Too bad to tell the truth.
VQ35DE rules over those MB SOHC 3.2V6.

If you drive a 2005/CLK350 .....it's a different story then.

How the heck did they get 7.2 secs out of a 320? ...oh yea, MBZ tests their numbers with two adults and full tank...that explains their claim of 8.0 0-60mph and 7.1 in a E320 when I've done 6.847 in my E320 alone with 1/2 tank.

That wasn't Mercedes, it was Motor Trend. One test driver, full tank, and some test gear, two separate tests, 0-60 in 7.2 both times. They weren't alone, btw: Automobile Magazine tested it and got there in 7.3...

Btw, Mercedes quotes the car at 7.4 seconds 0-60; click here:

i took on an 05 g35 (think it was stock, can't say for sure) with an 05 c320 *4matic* (stock) and put that driver to "shame"...

both of us at a red light side by side, with about 2 miles of empty road ahead. he was quicker off the line, but wasn't long before i reeled him in. i'm fairly sure he didn't know how to drive though: twice when i was making a move to overtake him, on two different curves, he couldn't handle his car and moved into my lane. i backed off, waited for the straight away and punched past him.

i'd like to do it again against more able competition to see where i'd stand.

(haha post # 101, fitting)

I believe the 05 G35 sedans have 280 hp...
Now I'm not calling you a liar, but that is mighty impressive for a 4 wheel drive 215 hp car to beat a 280 hp sedan with a bigger engine....
If you had a pulley and a chip, then it might be more believable for everyone on this site...
Again, I'm not sayin this is b.s.
Good kill...

i don't think i would make out as well against a driver who knows how to handle a car like that. the nice thing about the road where i drove against the g35: there is a good mix of straight stretches, and curves in between. makes for a more fun ride i'd say: i'm guaranteed at least two thrills a day (one leaving my home and one going back home )

Ummm, i want video before i buy this story. My CLK 320 is faster than the new CLK 320 and i dont think i could take a G35 unless the driver missed a gear bigtime. I also have a pulley, which is good for something but not much more than 5.... MAYBE 10 HP

wow.. its nice to see you members callin this guy's BS. I have an 05 coupe, I ran a 14.34 stock(was my 1st and only time at a track). i now have nismo headers, intake, and hi-flow cats. Im guessin.. MAYBE a 14.10- 14.15.
The 03-04 g coupes had the 280 engines in them and the 05's had 298.
Just puttin my .2 cents in

I was riding with a friend in his '01 slk 320 and we barely pulled away from a 350z (by about a carlength). We both were pretty shocked. Maybe it was a bad driver, but he was still going all out.

are you sure his check engine light wasn't on? Unless the guy missed a gear I too find it shocking to believe.

2017 W205 C43 AMG
2002 W208 CLK430 vs. G35 (Sedan and Coupe)

Let me throw in my two cents here.

I test drove a 2004 G35 Sedan a year ago, and felt that the engine had similar mid-range power as my 2002 CLK430. Everything else in the car, all the cheap plastic and smelly leather was subpar compared to Mercedes, but the engine seemed to put out the power it claimed (via my butt dyno).

Since then I have raced 2 G35 Sedans and 1 G35 Coupe (all stock). I have beaten all of them, as expected. I have K&N Filters and AMG muffler and Brabus Springs. My car laid down 245 hp on the dyno when I first got it. I am estimating it puts out 285 hp.

The G35s are even with me off the line, but once the intake manifold opens all the valves and the V8 builds the steam, they are toast arounf 75 mph.

I think the W209 CLK350s can keep even with the G35, but a W208 CLK320 may have a more difficult time.

Someone bumped an almost 1 year old thread.
G35>CLK 320

And as the above post stated a G35=CLK 430 until high speeds when the larger V-8 opens up.

Don't sleep, very swift cars, the G35

I too have raced a G35. I was beat...not to my surprise. What surprised me was how the G35 put 2 car lengths on my stock C320 and couldnt pull anymore. I actually pulled him in by maybe 1/2 of a car length up around 110mph. Just my experience. Oh...it was a coupe too.
