CLK320 vs G35
the light hits green, we roll off casual. sounds like a stock G35 to me! im still in comfort mode and hit the gas to pass the car ahead of me. i hit my hazard lights to let him know im ready and slowed to a creep. his HID lights flickering through traffic, he pulls to the left lane of me but a 3rd of a cars length ahead and hits it. his car whines but slowly pulls ahead. the nerve of this dood! what happened to a fair fight?!
so i tap button to sport, hold the shifter to the left changing from D to gear 1. it downshifts a bit to about 3000rpm and i punch it. my car lurches forward gaining the lead he took without notice! just barely redlining it, i flick my wrist switching to 2nd. passing him about a 1 cars length. another time for 3rd, its about 1 car and a half, then all of a sudden i hear this blasting noise come from behind on the left. my ego shrunk with the sound of what i was afraid of, a turbo........the G35 just flies, catches up to me and pasts me about 2 car lengths. its over
we both managed to stop and slow down from a cop ahead. i think he saw the whole thing. LOL and my friends were right, he did have a turbo.
silly me. for the next 20secs all i heard was, "i told you so" i pull up next to him and give him a thumbs up and smile. havent had a rush like that in awhile. makes me feel ****ty, i shouldve got the 500, or blew my money on a kleeman s/c or went to brabus instead of blowing it on my rims. lol go figure.
i just have some simple mods nothing biggy. spark plugs, air filter, and pully kit. i took off my 19inch brabus and now running on stock. had kw coilovers installed thanks to ben. i dont know what kinda G35's you have seen, but all ive raced here around OC arent so tough.
I mean, even the lower horsepower G35 sedan w/5 speed auto runs a full second faster 0-60 than a CLK320:
Motor Trend's test of G35 sedan: 0-60 in 6.2
Motor Trend's test of CLK320: 0-60 in 7.2
Another Motor Trend test of CLK320: 0-60 in 7.2
And the coupe is even faster, especially with the manual:

Kinda find it hard to believe that you've "put all of the G35's to shame", unless you're running nitrous or a supercharger. You're down 45 horses to the sedan, 65 to the coupe, and you're about 50 pounds heavier.

Btw, Mercedes quotes the car at 7.4 seconds 0-60; click here:

both of us at a red light side by side, with about 2 miles of empty road ahead. he was quicker off the line, but wasn't long before i reeled him in. i'm fairly sure he didn't know how to drive though: twice when i was making a move to overtake him, on two different curves, he couldn't handle his car and moved into my lane. i backed off, waited for the straight away and punched past him.
i'd like to do it again against more able competition to see where i'd stand.
(haha post # 101, fitting)

Now I'm not calling you a liar, but that is mighty impressive for a 4 wheel drive 215 hp car to beat a 280 hp sedan with a bigger engine....
If you had a pulley and a chip, then it might be more believable for everyone on this site...
Again, I'm not sayin this is b.s.
Good kill...

The 03-04 g coupes had the 280 engines in them and the 05's had 298.
Just puttin my .2 cents in
I test drove a 2004 G35 Sedan a year ago, and felt that the engine had similar mid-range power as my 2002 CLK430. Everything else in the car, all the cheap plastic and smelly leather was subpar compared to Mercedes, but the engine seemed to put out the power it claimed (via my butt dyno).
Since then I have raced 2 G35 Sedans and 1 G35 Coupe (all stock). I have beaten all of them, as expected. I have K&N Filters and AMG muffler and Brabus Springs. My car laid down 245 hp on the dyno when I first got it. I am estimating it puts out 285 hp.
The G35s are even with me off the line, but once the intake manifold opens all the valves and the V8 builds the steam, they are toast arounf 75 mph.
I think the W209 CLK350s can keep even with the G35, but a W208 CLK320 may have a more difficult time.
G35>CLK 320
And as the above post stated a G35=CLK 430 until high speeds when the larger V-8 opens up.
Don't sleep, very swift cars, the G35
