this shoud be very interesting, vs the SL55 that is I think the M6 will come out on top with more horses, lighter and better gearing

just saw the video you posted on the M5 board, looks like the M6 walked the 997 Turbo pretty well but I wasn't expecting anything else since the M6 has like 80 plus HP more than the 997 turbo, 4wd are generally not as good with rolling starts

BTW it was the 996 Turbo, not the 997 Turbo.

IMO the kill was brutal, much more than I expected, and the M6 is much more heavy than the Porsche.

Dont forgett the 996 Turbo will hit 125 after app 14 sec......, so it is definatly not slow......

Can you also do the runs from stand still. Would be interesting to see the results. Maybe 1/4 mile run side by side.

nice race!

Did the M6 also have 2 people in the car? I'm assuming yes? Was the 996TT manual or tip? I'm thinking maybe tip based on not seeing obvious shift points.

If you cant see the shift point you need to take a closer look.....

Follow closely the front end, it dips during shifting...... easily seen on the race from standstill.

some
the SL63 is not a competitor of the SL65.

the 63 is a NA V8 vith 510ish hp.
teh 65 is a bi-turbo V12 with 609ish.

the 63 is taking place of the 55.
i think the 65 will still be here.

I agree. I believe that the performance of the SL63 will approach, if not beat, that of the SL65, because the new 7 speed transmission will be used, and it has *far* more torque multiplication available than the fiver in the SL65.

We'll see, but I'm predicting pretty stellar performance for these new 6.3L AMGs based upon the numbers I ran earlier in the "gustav" thread in the E55 forum.

i'm not prepared to say the 63 (assuming 510hp) will beat the 65 no matter how you gear the thing except it will give it a fright in a short race. The 65's have an endless power curve which is hard to beat unless you can match the hp. There will also need to be weight reduction to help. The 65 will always run away from the 63 unless the 63 gets near the same hp as the 65 but in a 1/4 mile the 65 should be suprised by the 63 even with 'only' 510hp

I was taking weight reduction into account...I would expect a substantial weight reduction; if there isn't one, then I would agree that even the gearing won't take up the slack.

Ahhhhh, until the little German elves take that incredible 6.3 motor, which you have to cede is an engineering marvel, and force the induction, which is what we hear is in the works.

I belive I have comented you stable before

Only thing missing is a M6 , or you could get a great collective item.... the BMW M1..

Most of you collection will do damage to the M6, no doubt.....

My guess is you would have been more than welcome to the event that gustav organized.

Thrue enthusiast always welcome other great cars......

I have to ask you a question.

I read a story once at LS1.com about a guy having a Bellair like you selves he took out if the mood was right.

He wrote a story how he took his wife with him for a ride and ended up at a light with another car, I belive it to be either a modded Mustang or a Vette.

Anyway, his writeup of what happend after the light changed to green was priceless. One of the best I have read.

Was that you........?

I am sorry to say this, but I have to agree with you.

Since no 1/4 runs have been done yet on the M6 I have to go by the time to speed results and if we use your 11,6 to 123 mph and compare with the M6 12,8 sec to 125 mph you will win.

Improwiz has earlier stated that the dif between 0-60 and 0-62 is app 0,3 sec, it should not be much wrong if we then say your SL use twice that time to go from 123 to 125 mph....., would it?

That should give you SL an advantage off somewhere between 0,5 and 1 sec. in the 0-125 mph run.
How that would look in the 1/4, I leave up to you 1/4 specialists.

And in the short run 0-60 you will have the edge also by app 0,4 sec. ( M6 0-62 mph in 4.2 sec equalls 0-60 in just under 4.

So yes you will win
BTW: My quoted times for the M6 is made on Pirellie Corsa tires, which looks like it helps the 0-60 mph with app 0,2 sec

Was the 11,6 run done on normal tires ?
