06 C230 vs 04 TL
What a race!!!! It was my friend and I on this road in tampa at like 7:00 am on the way to school... No cops, not much traffic... basically we pull to the first traffic light, just mess around, rev engines, etc (except mine cuts off at like 5k, lol)... then we pull to next traffic light (after this basicaly, the rest of the lights stay green)... so we floor it... we are basically head to head... and then i slowly start to pull away... we do some lane changes etc, we both get trapped once, but then we got out and floored it down again... i pulled far enough ahead to get in front of him, before we had to make our turn... im suprised the 06 with its lower hp and lb-torque could keep up... but then again, the TL is fwd... coudl there be any other reasons!?!?

Nice kill!!!
But I thought the 04 TL have 260 hp??? I'm sure the extra 60 hp will more than just make up for the fwd, correct??
Good kill either way!!

was the TL manual? To be honest ive kept up with a TL on the highway, those cars sound nice at full blast. It was weird because we were neck and neck as you said and he couldnt pull away from me..

Off the line i think the C class should have more of an advantage since the Tl doesn't make its power till the very high RPMs its peak torque comes at about 5,000 rpm vs benz what 3,500? when i have raced my ML vs cars like that i always pull ahead at the start cuse of my torque but then they quickly pass me as they hit the power band. but sometimes if cars like that dont get a good launch the initial advantage of me getting the jump is hard to overcome ive held some off till 60 mph but keep in mind they where driving stick. when i raced a older 02-03 C230K he spun his tires and i pulled ahead and he didnt pass me till 60. basically on the street its all a drivers race.

Also keep in mind that MB seems to seriously underrate their engine power....either that or they just don't experience much power loss to the wheels.
I feel like, for advertisement purposes, many other car companies squeeze out as much power for their flywheel numbers.
Nice Kill.....does this mean a M271 C230K could kill one as well? Has anyone tried an 06 vs. and 05 yet?

i drove a c230 06 and it painfully slow, i believe u, but something must have been wrong with the tl. my moms old (very old, 93) legend felt faster than a 06 230.
by the way the legend is gone and now she drives an E55 05.... perfect for a mom

i think that the k car is quicker to about 70 or 80 and then the n/a is quicker thanks to its 7speed and greater top end power. no proof, only opinion.
they are both dangerously slow however. i almost "killed" myself trying to pass on more than 1 ocasion. i would pay an extra 4-5k for the 280, that car is quick and can get the tail out ralatively easy.

How can you say they are "dangerously slow"? Maybe you make bad decisions in trying to pass in the first place.

Any Benz with the numbers 230 on its trunklid has no *****. Many people buy those cars to say they own a Benz or for looks only. It is sad but true.

I own and TL and have ran many times againstg employees of mine who have every imaginable C class except an AMG. I will not be the first to tell you all, but the TL will own the C class, even the C320, it would be a dead match with the C350 though.
I find little credibility in this thread or the OP. The TL driver was not pushing his car to his ability or he was scared. The TL would have won and the FWD and RWD configurations in straight line wouldnt matter at those speeds.

Dangerously slow is defined as the the Ford Taurus or pretty much anything hybrid/econo (there are others, I will simply mention these as specific examples). I'm not gonna say my car is a speed demon, but I'm not afraid of merging or passing in traffic in my car.

i remember driving1, it was my dads friends, i was 15, it was a 280 sport, that car was quicker than any 230 ive driven and it could light up the rear relatively easy if u brake torque it.

1. 0-60 in about 8sec., 100 about 7 or 8sec. later (still slow, just not as dangerous)
2. being able to pass other traffic SAFELY when necessary
3. not needing a 1/4 of a mile to pull off a pass
4. being able to merge onto the freeway without obstructing traffic flow b/c the car cant reach freeway speeds on the on-ramp
5.being able to accelerate and maybe pass to avoid dangerous situations, with out putting others at risk
i can go on and on, i assume u get the point though
i drove a c280 06 and that car was perfect for every day driving
by the way u have a nice car (read ur mods)

is not the "same" as a n/a v6 hp
its the delivery and powerband that matter, the 230k runs out of puff at around 5300-5500 rpm
u can b making 300 hp, what good is it if its only delivered from 5700-6000 rpm and below that there is mad turbo lag (just an example)
go mod ur car and get back 2 me
