CLS55 vs F430 part II

I'm not sure if any of you caught my last post but my friend had just picked up his F430 and was reluctant to race me out a fear he might get beat. After I had my K1 mod installed I had killed a Viper SRT10 and a few others that had him worried. Well we finally went at it on Sunday.

Of all places we found our selves on Wilshire Blvd just before Santa Monica at a light with a clear 1/4 mile or so in front of us. My friend was revving up the 430 so I knew it was on. I have to admit, the sound of that car is quite intimidating not to mention the looks. For some reason I felt I should attempt my 1st "foot & brake" start to spin up the supercharger but I figured I'd just do the same thing I have done in the past, just punch it, since I was undefeated. If any of you were within a 3 block radius at around 2:30pm you probably heard it.

The light turned green and I just floored it. I noticed there was a pause that seemed like forever to me before the power really came on. In this pause the 430 jumped out and took about a car length lead. Then the 55 advantage came on and I sank into my seat as the 550 ft/lbs of torque shot me right up the nose of the 430. From then on we were dead even until I hit the brakes realizing we were doing a speed that would have put both of us in jail with both our cars. After we got out of the area we pulled over and were exchanging comments and I told him that the 430 was crazy loud while we were going at it. I was surprised when he told me the same thing. Looking back I think between our two cars it all comes down to getting the best start. While I'm sure I can improve my starts dramatically by experimenting, I'm sure my friend could as well. All and all the F430 is one hell of a car and this was my first non- kill but I am happy to say it was not a loss. Of course with out my K1 mod I would even have a chance against that car.

Wish I could have video taped it. It must have been a sight.

Hehe, very nice run. I know what you mean, before you know it you're in triple digits. Even for a hunk like my ML, you'd be suprised how quickly this thing hauls *** to 100. Very nice race, you dont see cars like that racing here in NYC.

We did some short rolling runs back when he bought the car and I kept right with him. Also after driving the 430 I was pretty sure our cars were VERY close in performance so the results were as expected. Of course he always thinks his is faster and after paying 250k I dont blame him.

My CLS55 is a completely different animal after the K1 mod. Although the hp only increased by 19hp to the wheels the extra 100 ft/lbs of torque is amazing. For the money the K1 mod is worth every penny and then some.

I didn't realize the 430 had that much wheel gap, compared to your car it looks like it is sitting high.

i love the 430 looks great sounds awesome

not trying to steal this thread but just thought i'd share this
btw great race and love your car

a couple of months ago while on one my regular road trips to nowhere
i noticed a ferrari close behind me and when i turned onto a favourite stretch of road he followed.
this road stretches for about 4 miles and is mostly dual carriageway with 9 sets of lights each spaced 1/4 to 1/2 mile apart before it reaches the motorway.
After passing thru the first set of lights he roared past me and the noise was fantastic then i noticed that it was a brand new 430, immediately i gave chase and found myself behind him at the next set of lights with a few
everyday cars in the left lane when the lights changed he punched it and so did i.to my astonishment i managed to stay with him, perhaps he was still takng it easy it being new or maybe its just that i was in his slip stream anyway at the next set of lights he had started to slow to a stop when the lights changed and i managed to pull past.he followed me to the next set which were also on red and pulled in behind me as before we had some slower traffic in the left hand lane. this time i floored it and managed to stay ahead for about 300 yards at which point we hit heavy traffic and the game was over, i slowed up and he pulled along side giving me a big thumbs up then i drove home wearing a big grin, not just because of the fun i'd had but because this guy had recognised the c32 for a truly fast car and not just a merc with flash wheels and a bodykit.

Yes, the euro F430 has been clocking in mid 3 sec 0-60s on tests. They deffinitley de-tune them for the US not to mention removing the "launch control button". The CLS55 is still quite a performer considering it's almost 1000lbs heavier.

I didnt get to make any timed runs before the mod but I am picking up an accelerometer this week to see what launch technique get's me my best times. I will keep you posted.
