CLK55 v. EVO8(300whp)

Thumbs up CLK55 v. EVO8(300whp)

before i tell the "story":
1.clk55 - modified air box, k&n filters, exhaust (sebring muffler and tips-it was free and sounds mean), 235 and 275 ps2's on 19in 547r's)
2.evo8 - full exhaust, intake, slotted rotors, driver said 300whp

i was driving back from nobu (best food ever,in malibu) w/ my gf. at around 11:30.
as im driving through the area before p palisades i see a black evo slowly pulling away from the light going in the opposite direction. as i drive by him i floored it, a sec. later i see him in my rearview turning on his blinker and pulling to the left. it looked like he was turning around b/c there is no street to the left, i pull between the double yellow and stop. i see those bright *** hid's coming around the corner, i put on my seatbelt (my gf does likewise) and wait. he's about 10 carlength behind me now and i see him speeding up rapidly. i floor it, after a brief spin i hook and take off, he is now on my rear bumper, we come to a corner and i loose him. on the next straight i wait for him, cruising, when he pulls next to me i floored it. i was about 8-10 car lengths ahead by the time my car was well into 4th :p . iwas very surprised at how quickly i beat him. i wait for him to catch up. we drag raced twice from the lights(standstill) later on and he pulled on me both times, about 3-4 car length to about 80. depending on traffic it was either me or him in front, through the corners i was pulling, especially the fast corners(75 and up) in the med speed corners we were pretty even( i was a little faster coming out and in the middle of the corner). we did this all the way to bh, i got home in like 10 min. :v throught the s turn (right as u get into bh, very wide and open, its also banked) i pulled about 5-6 carlengths on him. we talked at a couple of lights and he told me his mods and that it was dynoed at 300whp. he was cool, told me that my car is a monster, i told him likewise.
i know for a fact that an evo is faster through corners and in transitions, i guess its either me or the ps2's :p
actually, i know its me

i hear like the STIs they run out of steam in the 60mph+ zone really fast. but 0-60 STI's and Evos are crazy they can get the power down fast and are easy to launch.

this1 was modded
stock they pull hard to about 115-120
they are difficult to launch unless ur willing to replace the clutch every 2k mi

I did my own testing since I have both cars. My EVO 8 has a stage 1+ from Vishnu. It dynoed 275 AWHP on a DD, which is around 320 AWHP on a dynojet. I was driving the CLK 55 and my friend was driving my Vishnu stage 1+ EVO. It was around 1:00 AM and a weekday. Starting from 80 MPH, the EVO pulled around 2 car lenghts on my 55 (we were around 110+ mph). My 55 was at 4th gear. Around 120 or so my 55 shifted to 5th, was passing the EVO, and I'm pretty sure my EVO was already at 5th at that time. The 55 pulled away from the EVO by 3 or 4 car lengths which at that time my 55 was pegged at 155.
My friend told me that my EVO was pulling very hard up to 125 but somehow it was not the same pull after 125. 120 to 150 was not as fast how he saw my 55 passes the EVO. He stop at around 150 mph because he saw the 55 was way ahead.
We wanted to repeat it by exchanging cars but we decided not to because we figured we got lucky we didn't get radared at those speeds.
Top end gearing on the EVOs suck.

i agree w/ u about the gearing. its also the drag, that thing is like a brick w/ a spoiler.
my 55 shifts into 5th at 146.

Did you try it again with all the mod you have on your EVO now? because I used to have a 2003 EVO with the mod you have except I have HKS 264 instead of your 272.Also I got big FMIC. From 70 to 140. I kill my friends 2001 E55 by 4-5 cars !! But I agree the EVO's gearing is NOT for top speed racing.

With those mods, EVO will not even close to 300 whp !! may be 300 hp, which will close to 255whp-270whp. Either he was BS his mods or whp. Just doesn't match !!

We did not repeat the test. But when I raced in my CLK55, I was in 4th gear and did the kickdown shift at 80 mph. May be the E55 you raced didn't do it from 4th gear.
