had fun with an M3 tonight

on my way home tonight from doing a little christmas shopping. As I was pulling up to a light I saw an M3 sitting there, OH BOY time to have some fun (my first race against one)... Well just before the light would turn green I gave it a little gas and let the car "nudge" forward to get his attention. Well light turns green and I start out "kinda" fast but he didnt go dang ... OK I keep on traveling down the road with him behind me. Came up to another light and the M3 was behind me, I was first in the lane so I took off (again) pretty fast to see if he was game. Well thid time he was right on my bumper, so I floored it and started walking away..... I slowed down and he came up in the lane next to me. As soon as he was about to the side door (going about 40) I floored it again and walked away from him again, took it up to about 100 and he was about 4-5 lenghts behind.... Next light was my turn and took my exit, the M3 was still back behind so I didnt get to give him the "thumbs up" ... Yeah my first M3 kill was fun, hope for many more...

Nice Kill! He was definetly trying! Those things are just too damn slow to even know if they're racing or not

My wife slayed one of those in the Bentley!!!!

The M3 is simply not a match for any car that runs in the 12s, let alone mid 12s like yours

Ive seen a M3 stock beat a Z06 corvette in the 1/4mile but the Z06 driver couldnt drive. And a M3 with a good driver can easily hit high 12's. 4-5 car lengths is a lot. from what i read on the M3 forums the M3s kill the C32 AMGs and on the benz forums the C32 beat the M3s by bus lengths. Even with your mods i have no doubt you where in front but i doubt you won by that much.

As for a Bentley beating one its a drivers race, they both trap the same speed in the 1/4 mile and both run 13's.

That doesn't mean much. I recently ran a brand new 6-speed M3 convertible with paper plates and rocked it off the line to 70mph in my BUICK! My car is slower than the M3, but the driver simply did not know what he was doing. He launched off idle, crunched the gears in 1-2, and missed the 2-3 shift, bouncing off the limiter. He was pulling all over me when he was in gear, and dropping way behind on each shift.

From a roll I was tailing him and when I nailed it at about 50, I'm guessing he nailed it in 3rd since he accelerated but was still falling behind.

At the light he kept looking over trying to read the "ROADMASTER" script on the door. He probably never knew what it was. A classic case of more car than driver.

First of all, it is pointless to talk about what Mario Andretti could or couldn't do with either of the cars. A few people have broken into the twelves with stock C32s or stock M3s, but I certainly would not say that either stock car can "easily" break into the twelves, even with a very good driver. Simply put, an average driver will probably not do much better than a mid thirteen with either car stock. Coincidentally, this is exactly what I have seen at the strip. . . the average C32 or E46 runs a mid thirteen 1/4 mile. Sure, there are talented drivers hitting high twelves stock, but there are also tards running into the mid fourteens with either car.

So, to be fair, let's assume 'average' drivers here. Assuming that, you doubt that a modded C32 will pull 4-5 carlengths on a stock M3 from 40-100 MPH????? Got some money that you'd like to lose? His results are completely consistent with what I have experienced with my modded C32 against E46 coupes. Why are you such a doubter? Why is it hard for you to believe that a car with at least a 1/2 second and 4 mph advantage in the 1/4 mile would pull 4-5 car lengths on a car that, with an average driver, runs mid 13s.

Stock-to-stock, the C32 vs. M3 race is a crapshoot. The usual outcome of a modded C32 vs. stock E46 is right in the ballpark of what the threadstarter experienced.

If you still doubt, put some money on the table.

There are so many M3s out there that you can never tell why they own the car. My guess is that there are a higher percentage of real car enthusiasts among AMG owners than among M owners. I love M3s though, the E46 especially.

stock M3 running high 12's?

very, very, very, very low percentage of drivers can acheive those times.

Most M3's run 13.2 to 13.6.. just about the same for the c32...

now add 50+ and 70lbs of torque with a simple $3 to 4k investment of pulley and chip.. and you have yourself an M3 killer with no big exhaust or wing, or fancy wheels or huge front facia or huge rocker panels. a nice daily commuter that can run high 12's all day long (see level alt and good weather)

Granted there are alot of mods for the M3 like (AA, ACS, H, Dinan) but get ready to dish out some serious $$ coin just to add 50hp (without using the S/C or kompressor).

point being.. M3's is a fast car and great handling car... but hard to mod to keep up with the ever increasing horsepower race..

side note:
I just read another test of the IS350 from MT. 5.3 and 13.9 1/4... thats close or beats the times of M3, c55,C32, 545, M45, 350z, S2000, GS430, G35. Good thing a new M is about to arrive and hopefully a new AMG class to further the distance from ordinary to extra ordinary.

I'm seriously thinking jumping to the E55 now or going to EVO and spending the money.

man how come you seem to be the only one here that doesnt believe me?! I consider myself a pretty good driver (especially in an auto from a roll ) why cant you believe I beat an M3 with my mods? I have no idea how good of a driver he was, maybe he didnt know how to drive hs car, maybe he did. All I know is I let up @ 100mph and he was a good 4-5 cars back.... oh, there is almost ALWAYS a doubter when ever there is a good race

I ran 12.8 in the Bentley in 96f weather at the track. I've NEVER seen an M3 run in the 12s. I've got over 600-700 passes under my belt.

I would think with the HP & Tq, that it should be in the 12's. Are they difficult to drive?

In my experience it's not difficult to drive. The only time I have seen a M3 run into 12's is with a VERY experienced driver.

No friggin' way. That car is a mid-13 car, *maybe* low 13 at best. A close look at the infamous "stock" video of Lee Rutter running in the 12's shows that the car was modded: the front seat was clearly missing, meaning that the rears were certainly gone as well, along with the spare, and anything else he could strip out; also, the wheels were non-stock, and therefore the tires were doubtlessly non-stock, and likely drag radials from the length of his burnout....

Don't doubt it. I've run well over 20 of those, at all speeds, in my stock 2001 CLK55, and have never--and I mean NEVER--lost to one.

No they are not difficult to drive at all. But with a high reving engine with little torque down low it takes some skills to get the best out of it from 0, from the roll its piace of cake unless you are a complete moroon.

Stock for stock this cars are so close that the driver will decide.

A modded C32 that trap 110 mph should be capable of walking away from a stock M3, so I cant see anything wrong with this story,4-5 lenghts sounds like a bit to much but not impossible.

That was a supprising statement, I would actually claim if was the other way around. Maybe the US owners are different than the Euro guys.

I never said that his modded C32 lost or wouldn't beat one i just said 4-5 car lengths seems like a lot. either the M3 driver realized very early on he wouldn't win and gave up or he was in the wrong gear or something it happens to the best of us.

Usually in a 1/4 mile race, each 1/10 second that one car is faster than the other translates to about one carlength for the faster car. So if the modded C32 could run a 1/4 mile 0.4-0.5 faster than the M3, this result is not only entirely plausible, it is damn likely.

So, now you think that the E46 driver (1) gave up, (2) was in the wrong gear, or (3) something

Gee, then I guess that, coincidentally, the E46 that I left several carlengths behind must've had the exact same brand of tard pilot.

On the one hand, you state that there are a platoon of stock M3 drivers "easily" breaking into the twelves. On the other hand, when one gets stomped, you assume that the M3 driver must be a moron. See any contradiction here???

In the words of Rod Tidwell, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!"

I see !

So that means that in your opinion the C32/C55 aint fast either.

Just curious, what kind of car would you describe as fast ?

Lee had a lightened m3 with little performance mods (with this car, any simple mod may even take away HP). his tires were summer road tires - drag radials gave him too much wheel hop. His knowledge of the track, powershifting abilities, as well as his great launching abilities - 5k launches, all contribute to his times.
http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showt...matthews+stock

he would be able to run in 12's with a completely stock m3.
