I was on a 30 degree uphill incline waiting at a signal light, when a R230 SL500 pulls up. He pulls slightly ahead of me into the crosswalk, and was "braking against the tq convertor" while waiting at the signal light. The light turns green, I floor my E300 a big plume of black smoke comes out of the tailpipe, at this time I could physically hear the SL's motor working overtime, it was real loud, he was obviously flooring his vehicle as well. By the time I was at the top of the hill I was 3 Car lengths ahead. I tried slowing down so that he would pull up and we could go at it again, but he kept his distance, he was obviously embarassed that his so called "sports car" got owned by a plebian diesel car.

I schooled a R129 and a R230 SL500 in my ML before.. they're heavy.. But against a E300? Diesel engines have a lot of torque.. but not that much

The car puts out 228hp 315lb ft at the crank with the chip alone, I am just as surprised as you are.

Dude the SL probably wasn't going all out...A 300E with some mods takes out a R230 V8?...seems like you got the start on him or his heart wasn't in it.

the sl has like 350ish tq. so im going to say that he wasnt going.

because my 129 a LOT faster then my old E420. and that has more power then the 300E-d

With your mods your W210 E300TD has more power than my W210 E320! But diesels run out of steam at higher speeds...

Isn't the W211 E320CDI quite a bit faster 0-60 compared to an E320? I remember seeing the stats and the E320 catches up and passes at higher speeds. But you have to love the low end torque!

SL 0-60 in 6.1 sec.......
E300 turbo diesel 0-60 in 8.5 sec

Ok your car is modded....... No way your car can knock off 2.4 sec....... you say you beat by 3 Car lengths which mean your car got to knock of at least 3 sec to beat an SL..... .....

SL driver wasn't going for it, and he didn't line up again because he didn't care to see another puff of diesel smoke.

The SL's have a strong launch, more torque, ESP and wider tires. It would not have lost off the line.

An E300 may take an E320 off the line, but keep in mind neither of them can take the SL. I've raced both an E320 and an SL500. The difference in their launch is huge.

Consider the posibility that he wasnt flooring it, but shifting at 4k? My engine sounds pretty badass at 3-4k, chances are his foot wasnt all the way down, and was shifting at these semi high points.

Youre most likely wrong....just because tou "heard" him flooring it gives no reason to justify relevant evidence that he was infact pushing his car to the max. My SL sounds like I'm flooring it even if I'm just messing around with the wheel shifters or if I push the pedal a little bit at the launch...I'd bet you $1,000 that in a real full out launch to 100, at any angle of ground, you would be toast. Plus I have the 7 speed

SL500 has 302 hp & 339 lbs/ft with 4,065 lbs.. not the greatest power/weight ratio. The W210 might have a better ratio.

You're right. Even with 228 hp like what he stated, the W210 still doesnt have a better ratio. AltrhiTheir torque ratios are about the same.. 315 lb-ft on 3640 lbs.

Chip and air intake won't cut it. I'd believe you if the 300E had a turbodiesel or some kind of FI system going.
