M5 - Break-in or Just Chicken???
Yesterday on a sushi run I ran into not one but TWO M5s on the way. The first was a black M with what looked to be a middle aged man driving. Sure enough after a little work I get right next to him at a red light in a very low traffic area with nothing but clear road ahead. All I'm thinking of is how to launch for the best results and when the light turns....nothing. At first I think he's going to jump on it from 15 or 20mph but again nothing. I give a few revs and again zero. I'm amazed. I had to turn onto the FWY but wanted to ask him at the next light if he was in break-in or driving his wifes car.
With a full belly of sushi as I'm pulling out of the parking lot sure enough stopped at the light is a white M5. I'm thinking ok there is no way I can find two in the same day that won't give me a run. SO here we are again at the red light, side by side and waiting for the green with similar clear road situation. This time I'm thinking if the enormous amount of sushi I ate will take a few 10ths off my 0-60.....the light turns green and again ZERO. This time I give a nice blast of acceleration and let off only to get NOTHING.
Yes, they both had paper plates but so do most people I know including me with higher end cars. I think BMW should give out small window stickers that say "I'm In Break-In" to avoid such let downs.
In fact, if I didn't love it so much, i'd sell my M3. The other people that drive them are, to quote the latest issue of Autocar magazine, are usually "aggressive tossers." Shame.
