Okay found a really cool bike guy ready to race!! Should I....

Heh, you thought I forgot about the "Killed a bike promise" eh???

Anyway, met just a nicest guy who has a BMW Sport Touring bike that he claims is putting down 145hp. He has some pipes and other minor mods on it, but is more than happy to lay it down on the street against the beast.

Should I even give this a try?? 145hp seems like it's got some juice. Hate to start up the war again, but you guys want vid of this??? I got a feeling I am toast from the dead stop, but from a roll is really where I wanna see this race. This is where most of the kill stories are coming from anyway.

He is going out of town for a week so it's gonna be another couple of weeks, but stay tuned.

(Not actual bike, but just to give you an idea)

A BMW putting down 145hp? As in on the dyno? Sounds a bit optimistic for a 2 cylinder, but I dont know much about bimmers. I guess its possible if its a 1200 though. Why a bimmer and not an inline 4 japanese sport bike?

It's not a bimmer. It's a beemer, and you obviously don't know much about them.

The bike pic you posted is an "R" model. they all have opposed twin "boxer" motors. Only put out 110-120 hp. In 2005 BMW built their first modern in line four (the earlier horizontal 4's don't count) and put it in a bike called the K1200S. Supposed to have somewhere around 165 hp at the crank, so 145 at the rear wheel is possible. In 2006 BMW released the K1200R, a naked bike with the same motor. In BMW speak, K=4cylinder in line, R=2cylinder boxer. Listen very carefully to the bike name. The K models turn in the low 10's for the quarter and are speed limited to 186 mph (320 Kph).

Given what you have done to your car, you will probably take him in the quarter mile because it takes much more skill to launch for a 10 sec qtr on a bike that it does to mash the gas on a traction controlled four wheel cage.

From a roll, hard to say, it depends on what speed you want to call it off.

I'm not trying to be a douche. Don't take it that way. You called the bike a bimmer, which it is not, but that's not the point. The 2006 K1200 R is a 163hp 1157cc 4cyl bike. 0-60 in 2 secs. Unless the OP's car can come close to that, he shouldn't bother. If the OP decides to run, he should make a video. Happy motoring from one enthusiast to another!

Indeed, just from looking at these bikes, they dont seem to look powerful, compared to the look of a GSX-R or a 996 Ducati.

i don't think there's any question that a new gixxer or duck could walk away from most of our cars, the power to weight ratio is just too great. choosing the BMW sport touring bike would maybe be more competitive and make for a closer race.

btw, has anyone seen the vid of a race between a bike, a porshe i think, and a fighter jet?

You should not have a problem with the bike if you have this kinda power. Note that this bmw is the 1100.

If racing a bike just be aware of how well they stop, espically if it has abs.
On the BMW bike with ABS and TeleLever front suspension they haul themselves to a stop pretty damn fast!
